5.0 out of 5 stars Treat yourself to this Christmas musical feast
To the 2 very critical reviewers of this Gary Puckett Christmas CD. HELLO! THIS IS A CHRISTMAS CD!!! It's not the Union Gap and it's not a pop / rock CD. Gary Puckett is a world class singer - with or without a horn section / band or orchestra. Any true music fan will recognize the great talent exhibited on this CD and relish the Christmas music. If Christmas music...

2.0 out of 5 stars Very stilted
I didn't know Gary Puckett had a Christmas album out till this evening...I read a few of the reviews but when I heard sample tracks (luckily I didn't have to pay for them....) I thought, no, this is not for me. I was not expecting the Union Gap and I know Gary has aged a little...ok, not so "little" and his voice is still powerful but much of what I heard was out of tune...

If Christmas music in general or these particular songs are not your cup of tea - that is understandable. But come on people, if you are going to cticize - base it on the intent of the project and something meaninful.

This CD is well produced, is sound musically and Gary's voice is the same powerfull, passionate and velvet instrument it has always been. While each of the tracks of this CD will heighten your Christmas spirit, "Oh Holy Night" is a particularly brilliant rendition of this traditional favorite This CD is a cherished part of my large Christmas CD collection. This would make a fine present for the reader and his or her family and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this CD!!!, March 28, 2004

While this is definitely a departure from what we're used to hearing from Gary Puckett, it's no surprise that he recorded such a collection given the fact that he's a born-again Christian. If anything, his voice has gotten better with age & this CD is additional proof of his versatility as a performer. In addition to rock & ballads, he's performed blues, country, & just about everything else in between with the exception of rap & opera. This is a CD I'm looking forward to playing while decorating the Christmas tree. I still play it from time to time even now, because the music is really timeless. Nice work from probably the nicest guy in the music business!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy Yourself An Early Christmas Present, October 16, 2005

This is quite a good CD from a talent who has been with us for a number of years now. Puckett's voice was rich and full in his heyday (1967-71), and it has aged like a fine wine. He was about 59 when he did this Christmas album.

My only regret is that he did not have a full orchestra and a few backup singers (and/or a guest vocalist) behind him. It would also have been fun if he had done a cut or two with some kids. But such is the nature of the music business, in which mature talent often goes unrewarded unless it is seen as "bankable".

This is a simple and beautiful collection of holiday favorites. It ain't The Union Gap, but we've all grown up a little in the past 35 years, haven't we? Enjoy!

I didn't know Gary Puckett had a Christmas album out till this evening...I read a few of the reviews but when I heard sample tracks (luckily I didn't have to pay for them....) I thought, no, this is not for me. I was not expecting the Union Gap and I know Gary has aged a little...ok, not so "little" and his voice is still powerful but much of what I heard was out of tune and very stilted and stiff. Not smooth at all, I didnt hear any warmth or feeling in it. Good voice...typical Christmas songs...but somehow, the voice and the songs just didn't meld. Disappointing, in my opinion.

I've had this collection for over 2 years and due to the sheer volume of music I have, Christmas and otherwise, never got around to writing a review till now.

For those of us who grew up in the 60s with the voices of Jay Black and Gary Puckett, we have certainly matured just as their voices have. People who are (unfairly) criticizing this wonderful collection are simply indulging in 'ageism', in my opinion. The 1-star reviews are simply not based on a true listening of the music.

Gary Puckett's voice is every bit as powerful and smooth as ever, with the only difference being the type of music he is singing here. These are not power ballads as was his original style, but a collection of traditional Christmas fare. Of course, 'O Holy Night' is the exception to the power ballad rule, as it has always been one of the few Christmas-themed power ballads.

Though it may be too late for this year's Christmas season, I am heartily recommending that true fans of the genre buy this album for your yuletide enjoyment in the future.

I am a long standing Gary Puckett fan and would probably buy anything done by him. I wish this would have been the exception. I'm not sure what sound he was trying for here, but he came out sounding like a lounge singer. I expected him to break out in a rendition of "Feelings" at any moment. To say the least I was very disappointed. I realize that he didn't have the horns behind him that made his music so strong back when. However, he came out with an album "The Gary Puckett" album after the Union
Gap broke up that didn't incorporate the horns and it was great. I wish I could find it on CD. When I listened to the tracks on this CD before I bought it, I just thought something was wrong with the way it was being streamed. Nope. Don't waste your money on this album.

1.0 out of 5 stars This can't be the Gary Puckett I've loved, November 4, 2003

Whatever possessed Gary to put out this album? It doesn't even sound like him or maybe he's just not good solo. Anyway, my advice is to not buy this album. I turned it off after the 1st song and will probably donate the CD to a charity.
