I did order two copies of the Gasparilla Cookbook. Contrary to experience with other book sellers, the books arrived on the very last day of the delivery window. They arrived with dust jackets in place and, although visably old, appeared to be in very good shape. However, upon removal of the dust jacket, the spine on one copy came apart and the other was already...

5.0 out of 5 stars The best cook book for all receipes., January 30, 2010

I have had the Gasparill cookbook since 1968. The pages are well worn and my book is taped togather. My husband loves the lemon pie receipe on page 256. I have made it with other fruit also and it is still good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool, with alot of interesting recipes, February 12, 2010
This review is from: The Gasparilla Cookbook (Hardcover)
If you are looking for a break from the quick fix meals so popular of late, this is a fascinating look at Florida cuisine of the 1960's. I currently have no kitchen, so I just drool when I read the recipes here. I'm dying to try the different jams, jellies, and relishes especially. Definitely a slow food cook book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Florida and Cuban recipes, March 20, 2007
This review is from: The Gasparilla Cookbook (Hardcover)
As a young boy, I spent my summers on Boca Grande Island. My Grandmother often used this book. There are recipes from great Tampa cooks and from local restaurants - the most notable being the Columbia in Ybor City.
The introductions to the chapters bring back Florida as it was before air conditioning and the influx of northerners, "When we were children, the Gulf beaches were a lonely outpost where the white shell roads were rippled like washboards, and one drove to neighboring towns for groceries, ice, and drinking water". A great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gift for Cookbook collectors, July 12, 2010
This review is from: The Gasparilla Cookbook (Hardcover)
I was given this cookbook when I had a baby by a friend who also brought me a meal which had the "Country Captain" chicken recipe from page 137. She was kind enough to note her favorite recipes in the cookbook. After I tried them, I am now venturing out to other interesting recipes in the book. I love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gasparilla Cookbook, September 24, 2003

Great "real" recipes. The book has been around for a couple of generations with tried and true recipes! It's loaded with yummy tastes of Tampa and its spanish heritage and many other recipes - 712 in all! Recipes are simple and ingredients easy to locate at the local grocery store. A great product from our local Junior League of Tampa that helps fund their community projects.

I did order two copies of the Gasparilla Cookbook. Contrary to experience with other book sellers, the books arrived on the very last day of the delivery window. They arrived with dust jackets in place and, although visably old, appeared to be in very good shape. However, upon removal of the dust jacket, the spine on one copy came apart and the other was already complete off. In light of the price I paid ($1.00 per copy + shipping), I am still pleased with my purchase but would like to have known the true condition of the books in advance of ordering.
