Book Description

May 1, 2003
The Gatehouse: A Book about Business, A Story about Life is that rare book that inspires as it teaches, that brings tears of joy and tears of sadness, that brings lessons for today as well as for the future. It not only brings guidance for the CEO at the top of the business chain, but also for those in the middle and the bottom who are living the business experience each day.

The Gatehouse is a book teeming with life--work life, home life, love life--it all comes down to life. From the first pages where Jack, our ambitious narrator, meets the mysterious Sandor and is forced to examine his life--including the relationships with his three best friends, Sarah, MJ and Elton, and his own single-minded quest to be CEO--to the last pages that bring the final pieces of the puzzle, The Gatehouse will move you, touch you, and teach you--and maybe even change your life.

About the Author

Craig Elkins has worked for U.S. Intelligence, been a professional bowler, wrote comedy scripts, been a Director of Quality Assurance at The Boeing Company, and founded The Applied Thinking and Creativity Team at that same company. Still searching for the unique contribution he could make to the world, he visited Ireland on his fortieth birthday and had an epiphany. The next day he began The Gatehouse: A Book about Business, A Story about Life. Once he was ''on his path''; the doors and windows flew open. Writers such as Martin Rutte and Maida Rogerson of Chicken Soup for the Soul at Work fame; Patricia Aburdene - Megatrends 2000; and Diane Dreher - The Tao of Inner Peace, The Tao of Womanhood, and The Tao of Personal Leadership, all offered their help in getting The Gatehouse: A Book about Business, A Story about Life off the ground.

Craig does motivational and inspirational speaking focused on purpose and passion in work and life. He also speaks and consults on Spirit in the Workplace, Leadership, Communication, and Intellectual Capital and offers workshops and trainings in those areas through the company he heads, The Gatehouse. Craig is currently working on the second book of The Gatehouse trilogy.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2004 Writers Notes Book Award Winner, May 18, 2005
This review is from: The Gatehouse: A Book About Business, a Story About Life (Paperback)
Elkins employs the story of four coworkers to demonstrate a suc-cessful workplace, career, and life in general. This is not your usual business book with dry scenarios and forced humor that didactically demonstrate a point. Instead, The Gatehouse is merely a story, yet so much more. Four aspiring professionals begin their careers at the same time and form a fast and enduring friendship. The trials and experiences of life mold their personalities and construct their unique paths to achievement. Told from the perspective of the most materially driven of the group, his life reaches a crisis point where he must assess his accomplishments in terms of real value and worth. He learns that true success is defined by the individual, and the value of one's life is judged by his interactions with others. Inspiring, heartfelt, this book will no doubt leave its mark and serve as a wake-up call for those on the corporate treadmill

The Gatehouse is an exceptional business book. This story with the strong characters the reader grows to love and respect, will inspire any executive, manager or line employee.

In addition, those not in business will learn powerful lessons about friendships, love and life. Truly engages the heart and soul in thinking of connections to ones own life.

Looking forward to the sequel!
