5.0 out of 5 stars Vee's sultry artistic side, July 18, 2007
By Andrew Hall (Bloomington, IL USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Bobby is known as one of the great early rockers, but on both of these albums you get a glimpse of what Bobby would have been like had the Woodstock generation embraced him too. Gates... is an album of folksy psychedelic rock while Nothing Like A Sunny Day, revels in country-rock bliss. There is no Monster hit like "American Pie" on here that would have sent the radios crazy, but instead some well crafted passionate songwriterly songs. Intelligent pop, that is still fun, but shows a concern with the world in its contemporary turmoil. Unfortunately, the radio will never play these tracks... but if you like Cat Stevens, Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, Loudon Wainright III, than this disc is a can't miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly one of the best albums you have never heard of, December 4, 2007
Robrt Thomas Velline also known as Bobby Vee recorded this in the early 70s and this is by far his best ever album.
I know this is a bold statement to say about an album considering his past hits such as "Run to him", "Take good care of my baby", "Rubber ball", etc etc but this is totally differant from all his past hits

If you are looking for some raw rock n roll then this is defiantly not for you, what you will find is an album that has been written thoughtfully and carefully.

It is my opinion that if this album had been given some serious airplay and promotion then it would have been a big hit.
