5.0 out of 5 stars James Bond meets Howard Hughes, March 8, 2006
This review is from: The Gatestrian Knights (Hardcover)
The Gatestrian Knights is an action/adventure thriller based on one primary character who seeks to rid the world of evil through his corporate umbrella and, ultimately, a new organization patterned on mythical crusaders. I agree with the other reviewer who wrote about the creation of a secret society of catholic enforcers, but believe that this book is far more than that.

Yes, there is a pro-Catholic theme behind this story, but not one that should offend non-Catholics (or even other Christians). The morality involved is one of the inner turmoil suffered by the story's main character (the widower-turned-businessman-turned-mercenary) who struggles against his personal loss and a tremendous sense of urgent duty.

The main difference between this story and perhaps other techno-thrillers is that the omnipotent federal agency has been replaced by an idealistic corporate empire. Announced as the first of a 19 volume story which appears to be set to take humanity into space, this first volume does have minor shortcomings which are probably attributed to the need (desire?) to lay the ground work for the series as a whole.

Judged on its own merits and not compared with others, this is a very entertaining and somewhat educational read that is worth adding to your library.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tim LaHaye meets Tom Clancy, February 28, 2006

This review is from: The Gatestrian Knights (Hardcover)
A techno-thriller cum christian novel.
This is probably what you would get if a catholic Tim LaHaye teamed up with Tom Clancy to write a novel about a secret society of catholic enforcers.
An enjoyable read, but does not achieve the temporary suspension of disbelief that makes for a good techno thriller.
This is suppossed to be the first of a long series. I await the next installment to see where it goes.
Worth a read.
