4.0 out of 5 stars nice player
I think this is a great little player. Lots of options for a good price. USB is great for loading songs. Very easy. Only place I think Gateway cut a corner is the earbuds aren't very good. Otherwise a great unit.

DO NOT BUY GATEWAY !
...Broken unit without any support.
After waiting 2 weeks for the product
it arrived defective. It would not even power on.
Seeing that it was only a few days until Christmas,
I went to my local Gateway store (40 miles away) for service.
The store would not deal with any Amazon.com purchase.
I then spent half a day on the phone with Gateway customer service/abuse.
Gateway refused to provide any support to any product not purchased through them.
Even though this is an official Gateway branded product.
One technician (JJ - possibly badge#010) was particularly rude.
Gateway just didn't care that I had a defective Gateway product.

My family was thinking about buying a computer & digital camera.
Now, after this aggravation with Gateway, I will definitely
never recommend any Gateway product ... never.

Stay far away
from Gateway !

2.0 out of 5 stars So so player, August 22, 2004

The radio tuner on this player is terrible and will only bring in the strongest signal and no signals that another radio right next to it will bring in. The MP3 player part is okay but it does have some problems. The finish is flaking off on my player leaving part of it with a shiny finish and part dull. I also experience the unit shutting down with the slightest bump against something. There are frequently lines in the display that require the player to be shut off to get rid of. If the player experiences a problem and shuts down it does not pick up where it left off but rather goes back to the beginning of the play list. Overall I would say look at other players as I am now doing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Was good until it quit working...., April 5, 2005
This review is from: Gateway DMP-210 4-in-1 128 MB Music Player (Electronics)
I have had this since August of 04....so close to a year....I loved it when I first got it......then I started noticing problems, it would shut off, or the buttons wouldnt work, or not to mention the paint almost completely chipped off. Now, for about 2 months it hasnt been working. I am still using it as a data storage device, because amazingly enough that function still works, but What I bought it to do, play music doesnt work at all.....To sum it up, i dont think that if i even had a Gateway service place around my house I would take it there, because even when it worked I didnt like it.....I dont recomend this at all......

I am quite suprised with some of the other reviews in the section. I have had the player for about a year and it has had a air share of falls, drops, and smacks. It is still in a perfect working condition! I think the screen is great and the battery life is really good too. The loudness was also really great on even a cheap pair of headphones. If you are looking for a pretty cheap player with some cool features this is really a great unit.

1.0 out of 5 stars Most stupid MP3 player., December 30, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Gateway DMP-210 4-in-1 128 MB Music Player (Electronics)
The button did not work well when it reached me and now it lost its functions completely. The company required a lot of information for the warranty and I was kicked from Amazon to gateway. Till now I only have one month left, but havn't solved the problem yet. I will try not to buy anything from gateway because it sucks.

2.0 out of 5 stars As you pay, so shall you play..., May 20, 2006

It's been a year since I bought this piece of (let us be politically correct and say) 'equipment'. I bought this after many rebates when the iPods of the world were substantially more expensive.

The good part is... it is compact, it is easy to manage files, and doubles up as a simple usb jumpdrive.

The bad part is...
1. Sound Quality - Erratic and moody player that plays like your 5 year old walkman
2. Interface - Certainly not designed by the brightest ergonomist or an astute stress therapist
3. FM - I'm an avid radio listener and bought this partly because it comes with an inbuilt FM receiver. I have bought a separate radio walkman since.
4. Battery - Man, this is the hummer of mp3 players. Does this guzzle batteries or what!

I recommend it if you want a cheap mp3 player for listening to podcasts (not high quality music) during your short runs (runs out of battery charge at mile 5) and only if you have experience operating software with puzzling gui's.

You certainly don't get more than what you pay for!

5.0 out of 5 stars great for all,,, November 25, 2005
This review is from: Gateway DMP-210 4-in-1 128 MB Music Player (Electronics)
This player was for my 16th birthday, and its been four years now that ive had it. the functions on it work great just that i have chubby fingers so it is difficult in the cold sometimes to push the buttons. but other than that it is wonderful, great sounds, can control volume easily, and is great for data storage. the headphones that came with it wore out so i went to wm and baught a five dollar pair and they sound just as good. i have seventy eight files on there now and still have half the memory for music or more files. and since i am in college this works wonders for pulling up my term papers and projects, since it has NEVER crashed on me OR lost FILES of any-sort. i recommend this product for all.
