My main computer recently pooped out on me and I was left with only a backup netbook, looking for a replacement. My budget for the replacement was topped at about $1K. I've had good luck with Gateway before, so I figured I'd give this one a shot.

I do alot of gaming, and while this one isn't advertised as a gaming computer it plays everything very well. The 5750 card handles Fallout games (both 3 and NV) without a hiccup, and Crysis - a benchamark game - runs flawlessly. 8 GB of RAM doesn't hurt, of course - especially with RTS and MMORPG type games (which it also plays flawlessly). If it'll handle that, it'll handle nearly anything I need to do. It is also very quiet and energy efficient - huge bonuses to me. I used to run 2 Nvidia 8800 GTs in SLI and they were noisy as heck, but this one performs about as well with no noise at all.

The ports are very convenient - 4 frontal USB ports for temp device connections and 6 USB in back for more permanent devices. Multimedia card reader is in a very accessible place, too.

1 TB hard drive is nice to have. Augment that with externals, of course.

I have been suffering with Vista for the last two years, so I was anxious to get a Windows 7 OS, and while the first couple of days had a rough learning curve, now it is smooth sailing. All of the practically daily hassles that Vista had become have been eliminated. This OS actually works. That is nothing to shake a stick at...

I actually had an order in with a custom build company that specializes in gaming systems - you know the ones, where you can build your system piece by piece online - but cancelled that order as soon as I found this one. For the money I simply could not build a more capable and stable system than this one. I tried for days... Couldn't do it. So I cancelled that order, took the plunge here, and I am not looking back.

Excellent value on this one.

I bought this computer for the power and space that it has. It has worked out great for me, I can run my large programs (like photoshop, quickbooks and final cut pro) all at the same time and nothing slows down. I am very happy with my purchase. I also like how easy it was for me to decide what type of computer I wanted. There was a page that has a lot of different specifications, in drop down boxes, you simply pick what you are looking for and your price range and it tells you what Amazon has available. How awesome! And in my case it totally worked

Be forewarned that the warranty that comes with Gateway is worthless. They give an 800 number that has no human being at the other end. It is one of those automated voicemail systems with no option to speak to an actual person. When I called, and said no to all of the offered options such as troubleshooting steps for my internet connection - totally useless as the problem was defective hardware - finally the recording asked me to give a 20 digit number that is printed on a label on the bottom of the CPU in teeny tiny print that requires one to lie on the floor and use a magnifying glass to read it. Then it asked for an even longer serial number from the same location. Then it said that it can not help me and directed me to the web site for a similar run around.

After getting the retailer to contact Gateway and putting me on a conference call with a Gateway representative, the rep tried to make an issue of the fact that I hadn't filled out the warranty registration card, and tried to insist that I fax him proof of purchase, even though the retailer was on the line and was insisting that I had a valid receipt. So it had to be escalated to some kind of Gateway manager. Then I was told that I had to ship the CPU to Texas at my own expense for them to fix it. What kind of warranty is that? I didn't mail order this POS, I bought it at a brick and mortar retail outlet. A decent manufacturer who requires you to ship defective product back will always send prepaid shipping label.

Gateway used to be a good brand. Now they sell pretty but defective crap, and when it breaks down you are stuck with it.

I bought this computer in April (5 months ago) I use it for my photography biz, so lots of memory is needed while retouching large photos to the tiniest detail. I have plenty of storage type memory left - barely a dent made on the C drive or the secondary hard drive I use to save my photos. The other type of memory, the kind that is constantly writing and overwriting itself while you work, must be horribly small or slow or something because I have to wait for the computer to catch up with me while doing minor editing to a photo. This computer gets sluggish so quickly, I feel I have to re-start all the time just to get the pc to move a little faster. Not only is speed a problem, but now if I leave my computer on overnight and come back the next day, or when I have tried to switch users, the screen goes black and the computer does not respond except to maybe show when I move the mouse. I have tried other monitors and done a complete scan with my virus softwear. I also took the computer to a fix-it place within the first two months because wierd things were happening (one being that my computer was constantly trying to do a windows update of 60+ updates and failing everytime). The fix-it place said that everything was working as it should from what he could tell, he said it was probably just cheap parts or the windows software which he fixed.
Next... The Customer Service from Circuit City is Horible:
Before I took the pc to the fix-it place I contacted Circuit City's Customer Service asking what I could possibly do to get the pc fixed, the only response I got was a return authorization with a 30 day limit (no explanation). I immediately replied back that I didn't want to return right away since I had already loaded some very expensive software and I was needing the pc for daily work.
