Best buy for a bound budget.,

I have the heftier model, 6 GB RAM; Dual-Core; 1TB HDD; running Windows 7 Home Premium. This computer and OS were made for each other. If you are excited about the release of Windows OS 7 as much as I was, you are going to want this machine or extremely similar.
I knew what I wanted, and all I needed was the tower. I looked all over the net for something as reliable as eMachine (my previous one lasted an incredible 5 years and still took a beating with heavy loads all the while running fast). I couldn't find a suitable eMachine running Win7, but knowing that Gateway builds those and Compaqs, I decided to spend the extra cash for this system. Setting aside aesthetics with its awesome placement of the power button, USBs and Digital Card readers; black glossy finish with chrome accents; uniquely designed keyboard and optical mouse, this computer runs fast and stays quiet. Start up time seems to decrease with every reboot, peripherals plug and play instantly, HD video and audio output make this perfect for anyone connecting this your HDTV (up until now I had yet to fully utilize my HDTV for what I bought it for almost 3 years ago), and did I mention it looks pretty sitting next my desk? I don't have a million bucks to buy top of the line stuff, but this system sure puts me up there with and above the fat cats who spent 4 times as much as I did. Kind of makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I purchased this computer from Best Buy on 10/27/09 and it worked until 1/7/10. The hard drive failed. Best Buy repaired the hard drive under warranty and I have spent the last 6 weeks or more trying to obtain ,from Gateway, a set of recovery disks that will work. The Tech. support experience has been awful and Gateway "has no Customer Service Department" according to the Tech. Support department. I have tried to reach a real person to complain by calling and e-mailing both Gateway and Acer with no luck. Save yourself some grief and buy some other brand.

I bought this computer around Christmas and do not regret it at all. I spent days and days trying to find the right computer to do school work and for personal use. Well let me tell you I found the one and this computer rocks. I have had no problems at all with it. It has plenty of HDD space and memory for the price. I have to be honest I was skeptical at first but who isn't when purchasing a computer. There are so many to choose from. I put all kinds of music and videos on this system and it seems like nothing can slow it down. I upgraded to Windows 7 Professional and I could not , or would not go back to Vista or even XP for that matter. Microsoft finally got something right this time with Windows 7. Any ways all and all if you are looking for a computer and thinking about purchasing this one, then I have two words for you. DO IT!. It is well worth the price and you won't be dissapointed.

THe Gateway DX4822 is a lemon, or more correctly, has a lemon of a hard drive. While a 1TB hard drive for this price sounds like a good deal, it's only a good deal if the hard drive work; this one DOESN'T. I bought one and while simply downloading files from an external hard drive to the Gateway, the hard drive crashed. The reatailer gave me a new Gateway 4822, and in the second one the hard drive didn't work at all. I brought it back to the retailer and they found that the hard drive had been incorrectly installed. When I called Gateway service, all they could do was ask me to ship the computer to one of their service centers. Talk about inconvenient. After two weeks of total fustration I purchased a Dell Inspiron 545 which so far has worked flawlessley, and was perfectly capable of transferring my external data to its internal hard drive. I would stay away from this computer completely.

Gateway DX4822-01 Desktop Computer Purchase,
This review is from: Gateway DX4822-01 Desktop (2.6GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor, 6 GB, 1 TB Hard Drive, Windows 7 Home Premium) Black (Personal Computers)
I purchased the Gateway DX4822-01 Desktop Computer in July 2010, and the performance has been flawless to date (only a couple of months though). I'm primarily writing this review as a warning to those who do decide to consider Gateway as a potential manufacturer option for a computer. The specs that was offered for the $ value was very enticing (2.6GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor, 6 GB, 1 TB Hard Drive, Windows 7 Home Premium), but WARNING! Gateway customer support is atrocious! They have none! If you're looking for customer service to respond to any inquires you might have during even the 1st 30 days of ownership, forget it! They outsource their customer service, and expect you to pay an extra $200 (annual fee) to even answer the simplest of questions you might have. I learnt this only after going through several iterations of telephone voicemail transfers before eventually speaking to human voice, only to be informed about this arrangement. They refused to answer any of my questions without this coverage. I just assumed a company of this statue would've some basic customer service as a minimum for their clientele. If you're a computer whiz or don't mind paying this hidden cost, then, going Gateway might be the way for you.
My mother always used to tell me, if something appears to be too good to be true, it usually is!

I bought this computer because of its huge HD space. It is adequately fast to run photoshop, but it is not a screamer. But for the price, I shouldn't complain.

Well, don't know what the difference is...since I know Acer and Gateway are the same company now...but the Acer I bought 2 years ago was terrible, nothing but trouble.
I now have this Gateway, because the reviews were so great, and I love it. Although I have not had it long yet. Hope it lasts as long as I think it will. No problems so far. Amazon's price was the best I had found and I did a lot of searching. Thanks..

Bought this computer specifically to take advantage of price and power offered. The intention was to upgrade it with a larger power supply and add an additional optical and hard drive for backup. Having saved several IDE products with which to do this, I was very surprised to find that there is virtually no expandability for anything other than SATA products. No IDE plugs on the motherboard and insufficient power supply connectors even if there were motherboard accommodations. Nice if you want to buy all new equipment, but then you would go first class and build from scratch. I suppose a five hundred dollar computer has to trim features somewhere but this seems a bit much.....I will say the machine operates as advertised but I'm disappointed nonetheless.

The company that I bought it through is who I have an issue with. They sent me a computer that wasn't even conected inside. For $110 I had to ship it back to Gateway so they could fix it. They haven't even offered m y shipping costs. I won't do business with those people again.
