5.0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor for the Price
This is a great monitor if you can get it under two hundred dollars and odds are soon enough you can shop around and find it. 3.0 out of 5 stars Glossy screen!
There are a few problems with this monitor.

1) It has a glossy screen. This is a bad screen if you want accurate colors and have any light source around.

2) The stand is VERY weak. The monitor will wobble around every time you bump the desk that it is on, which is all the time.

3) Quality from the VGA input is very poor. (This may...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor for the Price, March 31, 2009

This review is from: Gateway HD2201 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor (Electronics)
This is a great monitor if you can get it under two hundred dollars and odds are soon enough you can shop around and find it. Keep in mind in the under two hundred dollar lcd monitors quality isn't the same so much as a three or four hundred dollar monitor if you go with the right brand. Then again if you shop around and do some research you can find a good cheap monitor. I think that is the case for this one. If you are more apt to get expensive monitors than this one is probably not the right direction for you. If you have a budget then this is probably a good idea and a nice investment.

I was upgrading from my current HP lcd monitor which was great but I needed a bigger one. I thought about going with a bigger HP but for some reason the price was not in my range and plus when I looked into them I could not find one with the setup I was looking for. I don't have the budget I use to but its a good thing monitors have come down in price in the last couple years.

I found setup to be easy but the base is kind of cheap and the computer monitor shakes when I touch my computer desk to hard. It tends to shake around simply because its top heavy and the base is basically cheap plastic. I pushed it back one time and the rubber grips on the bottom started to come off. Instead of buttons that stick out on the the monitor it has touch sensitive buttons plush with the monitor on the bottom right side next to the screen. The on off switch is probably the most responsive out of the four or five buttons on the monitor. They work good but not great and sometimes aren't as responsive as you would like. Good thing is its not overly complicated and very simple to navigate but touching the frame around the screen leaves finger prints on the shiny surface.

It comes with one DVI, HDMI, and VGA hook ups which is very nice for most computer owners. Having all three considering that most monitors only have two and not the other isn't really a big deal since you can buy adapters for your video cables if you don't have the appropriate setup. Basically it has what you mostly need to hook your computer to.

It took me awhile to find a comfortable viewing brightness and contrast that isn't to bright and not too light. It comes with something called ultra contrast or something like that but its not really comfortable to look at for very long. It makes things a little too bright when its used so I found it was better not to use it. Bottom line is just look for the setting that suits you best and you'll be fine. Who knows you might actually like the ultra contrast setting. I play a lot of games and found a black level on my games that I really liked and contrast as well. Like I said you have to find your own setting you like. I didn't notice any problems with blurring or anything like in some older monitors and well I guess some current monitors. The resolution is good enough even though a higher one would be better considering it does have HDMI.

Thus far I am very happy with monitor since I didn't have to pay to awful much for it. Most average computer shoppers will not notice the nuances but if you know your monitors you might not be so satisfied. Reviews vary so much and mine is based on value for the price but even with that in mind its still a great monitor overall. Look into some professional reviews and others and see if you think its worth it. Personally for me after a little work getting the color and everything else where I want it I am glad with this investment.

This is a great monitor, the only thing is it has a very weak stand. The monitor will move around from side to side and front to back some.

4.0 out of 5 stars Verg good monitor for the money with 720p resolution!, October 11, 2008
This review is from: Gateway HD2201 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor (Electronics)
This monitor is 95% identical to the its predecessor, the HD2200 (http://www.amazon.com/Gateway-HD2200-Widescreen-LCD-Monitor/dp/B000XIDECU). If you want a detailed description of how this TN panel performs in color palettes, grayscale, backlight bleed etc. refer to the link and other sites for feedback because the representative at Gateway told me this and the HD2200 use the same exact panel (apparently the 2000:1 contrast ratio to the hd200's 1000:1 is a gimmick, because of "Ultra Contrast" - similar to dynamic contrast versus native). The biggest difference between this monitor and the aforementioned is the lack of a component input and DCDi Faroudja processing. I bought this at Best Buy for $180 at a deal (normal BB rp is $220) and am hesitant to return it since there are zero dead pixels or any related faults.

I really wanted the component input to hook up my PS2 and older generation equipment. Unfortunately, the HD2200, even though it is now discontinued, is for some reason $100 more expensive today than this newer model. The HD2200 was released in October of 2007 I believe at $350 while this monitor was released in September 2008 at $330 (but every established internet merchant is selling it for ~$250).

I think I will return this anyway.. component is much too important a feature for me; but if not for you definitely go with this! If you try hard, you can get this around $220 easily and at that price it's a great deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor, Great Price! Especially for Macbook users!, February 8, 2010
This review is from: Gateway HD2201 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor (Electronics)
When I purchased this monitor for $149, I wasn't expecting much, just a 22" monitor and hopeful of an "acceptable" viewing experience. This monitor is absolutely gorgeous. I currently have it connected to my Black Macbook (2008 model) and I am amazed at the quality of this screen. I currently use a professionally calibrated color profile (easy to find free online) and the colors are rich, the blacks are really black and the screen is super bright. The monitor includes: HDMI, DVI and VGA ports.

I really can't find anything negative to say about this monitor, although I wish Gateway would have installed a camera at the top of the monitor and also the stand is a little flimsy for my taste. Other than that, I can't understand how they are making it so cheap. I will update my review in the future if anything goes wrong, but so far I couldn't be happier.

I was in the hunt for a desktop computer, because when I am home I don't want to constantly work with a 13" screen. I needed more screen real estate for my own comfort level. I am very happy with my current setup. My Macbook is my desktop computer, it's currently closed and I am typing on the Apple wireless keyboard and staring at this beautiful 22" screen. If you have a Macbook and are considering buying one of the Super Expensive Apple Displays, please consider this monitor as an alternative and save tons of money.

If you are considering a Desktop for home use and more screen real estate, you would really save a lot of money by buying this monitor, get yourself a bluetooth keyboard and a bluetooth mouse and your user experience will be very gratifying.

It does what is required & the cost was excellent. The supplier was quicker then advertised. It doesn't have the bells & whistles that the OEM supplied with the unit but fully does what is needed to facilitate my needs. I'm very satisfied, so far.

Very limited budget but have a staff member that needed larger monitor for lower vision level (person is not blind, just needs larger monitor to do work, 18" monitor means taking longer to do a routine task). This was a PERFECT solution, an excellent product - could NOT tell it from new. Staff member is very satisfied, so am I !!! Would not hesitate to purchase another from this vendor. A+!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Monitor, May 10, 2009
This review is from: Gateway HD2201 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor (Electronics)
I bought this monitor because the display on my laptop died. I have connected it to my laptop now. I chose this monitor, because the reviews I found on it were very postive. It was one of the editor's picks on the forum I read. I was trying to choose between this and another smaller one. For the minor difference in price, this was a much better deal at $199. And I have not regretted my decision.
I was pretty much able to just pull it out of the box, plug it in and configure it as I wanted. The display is crystal clear, and it is a real luxury to have the extra real estate on the larger, wider screen. Of course, as my comparison is to my old laptop screen, this may not be saying much. But I did go into several stores to evaluate the differences in the picture quality on different screens. I find the color to be true, the picture to be sharply defined, and the size, as I mentioned is very convenient especially since I have to capture screenshots qjuite frequently for my work. All in all, I am very happy with the product, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a monitor.
