4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Little Netbook
I didn't really have any intentions of purchasing a netbook since I already have a 12.1" laptop (HP TX1000), but my laptop is showing signs of dying and this little doo-dad was on sale at $230. I plan on purchasing a 15"~ laptop once the 12.1" laptop dies as this is not a laptop-replacement for power users (no CD/DVD drive for starters).

First I have to say...

1.0 out of 5 stars not satisfactory
I had my netbook for a couple of years (at least). It was handy for travel but I was constantly losing drafts on emails, facebook, etc. -- constantly having to re-do work because of 'incompatibility,' issues with the Windows 7 which accompanied the product. Keyboard was too cramped and the mouse and cursor hyper-active even with adjustments. After three Gateway...

First I have to say the design is very nice. The black and silver looks premium and sophisticated, but not gaudy. The inside is a little more basic looking, but the silver hinges and reflective frame around the screen give it some pizazz (although the sticker residue did NOT come off nicely and I ended up leaving light surface scratches when removing)

The track pad is pretty small compared to a normal sized trackpad on a laptop, but is very usable. Only takes a minute to adapt. The side scroller works very smoothly (unlike some other laptops I've tried). The button on the bottom acts as a rocker from side to side for your left and right click.

Weight and thinness are certainly commendable, but you can get the measurements from most product descriptions to see how this compares to others. In my comparisons, I found this one above average (but not best-of-the-best).

Performance is nothing short of remarkable. VERY FAST (but only for basic tasks). Opening internet explorer, browsing around the computer, etc. makes you believe you have a supercomputer, but once you try to play HD video on Youtube, you definitely reach the limitations of the system (regular Youtube videos work fine, even full-screen).

The 0.3 megapixel web cam doesn't seem like much compared to the 1.3 megapixels of other netbooks/notebooks, but this is definitely enough for webconferencing and making fun videos for yourself. It's not like you're taking pictures with it.

Even with only a 10.1" screen, the text is very readable without going to a lower resolution and then not being able to fit everything on the screen. Very pleased in this respect as it was a concern for me.

The laptop screen is difficult to open though... maybe there's a technique to it, but it's completely flush on all sides except where the chrome gateway logo strip is in the center. Also, the sound is not loud at all. Full blast volume is 60% of what you'd expect, so be sure to bring portable speakers or headphones...

As far as connectivity, it gives you everything you need. Everything is on the sides (rather than the back or front) for easy access without getting in the way. There's a network connection, VGA (monitor) port, USB port, mic and speaker ports on the left side and the power cord, two usb ports and a multi-function card reader on the right.

Overall this netbook really impressed me. It is definitely going to be grabbed more often than my 12.1" laptop for its lightweight portability, quietness, and lack of heat - all without sacrificing speed for simple tasks. I only hope this netbook surprises me with reliability in the years to come.

Update/Edit:

Today I put in iTunes and was able to get the sound up to par by maxing out both Windows Sound and iTunes. I was able to do the same with Windows Media Player

i haven't had this netbook very long but i'm impressed already. although its a little small, it does everything i want it to do. hard drive and memory are ample, and its light weight is incredible. since its made by Gateway, i'm sure i'll get many years of use out of it.

Purchased for my 13 year old, Had to have one because ALL her friends do. Didnt want to invest in an expensive desktop that would require maintenance by me, just need something she could surf the web, facebook and oovoo with her friends and use for homework. This was so easy to hook up wireless web, just turned it on and bam....she's up and running. Now I only wish the manufacturer warranty info was close by so I could register it =0) just because you never know =)

5.0 out of 5 stars This little book rocks!, January 8, 2010

Got this netbook from wife for Xmas. In fact, I'm writing this review on it. As others have stated, ditch the junkware it comes preloaded with. I'll admit I hate Windows Vista, always avoid buggy new operating systems like Windows 7. XP is still the best most stable MS OS since NT 4. Mostly use it for internet browsing, some gaming. My all-time favorite game, Steel Panthers World at War runs perfectly on this box. (BTW- full game is a free download from [...]) Other games like Bejeweled 2, Warlords III, etc. run fine, too. This is with no RAM upgrade. Guitarpro 5 also runs perfectly. This means I can load tabs, learn new songs without lugging my Toshiba laptop around. Itunes, Mediamonkey run perfectly as well- Podcasts galore! What more could you ask from a sub $300 netbook? Wifi was a no-brainer to set up. Youtube vids run just fine. Admittedly, you're not going to run Call of Duty or other memory intensive games on it, but who cares? That's what a desktop is for. In short, it does everything I want it to, without being chained to a desk or lugging around a full laptop. I think of it as a "Laptop Lite" and for that purpose it is very nice indeed. Amazon also rocks! BB had this same netbook for only 70 dollars more and Amazon actually understands the meaning of *SERVICE*. LOL! Brick and mortar megastores are doomed. Good riddance to them.

Edit to add: Been using this netbook for nearly one year, zero issues or problems. For the absurdly little $$$ paid for it, $239, no complaints whatsoever.

Very impressed with this tiny PC, it boots up fast, and performs greater than I expected. I bought it for my daughter, and she is yet to complain. Only problem, and it's true with most of these netbooks, it's that they don't have CD/DVD drives.

The Gateway LT2022 NetBook is very well put together. I've had no issues and it's confortable to work with. The touch pad is smaller than most in the same class, but I like a mouse anyway.

Very happy with this purchase, we are not new to computers, and I've had my share of problems with others!, but this one has been great so far, battery life has been very good and the perfomance is exemplary. Looking forward to many years of service.

Christmas present for wife. She loves it. Fast on internet and fast enough for programs. I had a choice of brands - Acer or Gateway on black Friday for $250. I choice Gateway. Come to find out, both are the same computer because Acer just puts the name Gateway on the netbook. Comes in Black or Red color. Great little computer. I was really surprised at the quality.

Arrived Early! I needed this for facebook, twitter, google and yahoo. Basically idle surfing while I watch TV. This laptop is fine. Battery goes for about 2 1/2 hours, but since it stays in my living room, well, a power outlet is not far away!
