Gateway 610x Media Center,
By Marti F "Martha" (Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gateway 610X Media Center PC (2.6 GHz Pentium 4, 512 MB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, DVD-CD/RW Combo Drive) (Personal Computers)
Unfortunately for me I fell in love with this computer only to have it break down numerous times. The screen blacks out on and off. That was just the begining. Right now I don't get anything on my screen. Some people have said the video card must overload with all the components. I don't understand that kind of thing so all it is to me is that the computer turns on and the screen stays black.
Also I've had no success with the technical department at Gateway they don't seem to know how to remedy the problem. My computer has been on more trips than I have in the last year. I've been without a working computer for months now. I found the customer service and repair center at Gateway to be the worst I have ever dealt with in my life. Currently I am asking for a refund but Gateway refuses. I believe that in the future this type of computer could be a great tool for people who want everything compact and neat. That I give 5 stars to. I loved the concept of having all in one and being able to use all the great features (TV DVD CD RADIO COMPUTER And recorder and burner)together. I don't however like being a tester for a product that needs to be adjusted. I think Gateway made a nice looking computer compact and great features. I do think they need to perfect it. Also the wireless mouse and keyboard need to be tweeked they don't always work well or at all. I think I got a lemon! I'm sad that this turned out the way it did. All I can say is research research research don't buy a computer souly on the features. Make sure of the reputation and quality.

Do Not Buy,

like other posts have said, the idea is cool, however, the product is defective. I have had mine for only a couple months and the screen continually goes black. Unfortunately, it started happening right after my warranty had expired. I sent my computer in twice and had to pay for the shipping and repairs and the problem still isn't resolved. I now have a thousand dollar paperweight sitting on my desk. Do not buy this computer! You will be severly dissapointed and frustrated to no end. If you're looking for a new computer I suggest you look elsewhere.

I have had this sytem for one year and the concept is great. Its a fast system, lots of features. But there is a problem that Gateway can't seem to fix. The monitor goes black, on and off repeatedly. Had it back for repairs but the same problem comes back within 3 months. Gateway said it was cable connection but it didn't help. They have been of no use in resolving the problem. My suggestion would be don't buy a system with to many integrated components, If one fails you end up with a paper weight like mine

Lots of stuff in a compact system!,

Great computer with additional features (TV tuner, PVR, etc.), and it takes up very little space.Wireless keyboard is a pain, however - its reception to the system is poor and it eats batteries like crazy. TV reception is snowy - don't buy it for the TV, buy it for the compact computer and the convenience of having the other things attached. You'll still want a regular TV. This would also be GREAT for a college student in a dorm room.

I have the same problem with my 610. It is less than a year old and the screen goes black or it constantly flickers so fast that I can't read the screen. Every person who has purchased this particular model and has made a comment on line has said the same thing. I had an on line chat with a Gateway tech today and he tried to convince me that this is not a defect associated with this model. How can they say that when every review I have read from people who have purchased this model have contacted Gateway with this complaint and have sent it to their repair facility to get it fixed and it comes back the same way. The tech I spoke with today wanted me to send my in for repair, but I had a feeling deep down that I would just end up paying for the diagnostic check, parts and repairs and when I got it back it would still be doing the same thing so I decided not to send it. Like you, I really like the all in one concept and have been looking for another computer like the Gateway but by a different manufacturer. I really wish there was a way to make Gateway refund our money. How can they get away with this. I am sure that they have received numerous complaints from consumer so they have to be aware of the problem. Isn't there something we can do?

Outstanding computer for the price. Big time space saver. Great graphics. Fast. Dependable. Only negative is the remote keyboard (have to replace the battery every month). However, if i get too tired of that, i can easily just get another keyboard and plug it in. Not an issue really.
