If you need a new Windows based laptop get a Gateway, plain and simple. Even though Acer bought Gateway, Gateway are still releasing top quality, innovative product lines. Gateway notebooks this one included are the best windows based laptops you can buy other than a MAC. They just work, work well, and stay working. HP, Compaq, HP-Compaq, Dell, Asus, and ACER brand laptops have failed me due to crappy hardware and poor intergration but Gateway products have never failed me once yet. This is a great laptop, very well designed and has great performance. You can literally take this anywhere with you and not have to worry about battery life, is it going to work etc. it is very reliable, stable and sharp to look at.

I bought two of these Gateway NV5814u laptops. Video, 4GB of RAM, 320GB hard drive disk space are great! Windows 7 works great on it too! Great value for the price!

I've been pleasantly surprised by this laptop. Have owned many Gateway laptops and have found them to be solid and reliable, but I used to spend additional money for extra video and sound cards. This computer covers all the basics, but also pleases with the sound (using a decent pair of headphones). I don't find any difference from others with the maximum sound card upgrades. The video is fine; I used the computer mostly for work. It plays my games well, but they don't include the extremely graphics-intensive 3D types that may need another video card. Lots of ports, connections; good looking, connects to the internet quickly...and, unlike some, turns on & off when asked to! So far, I'm very pleased. (cautious note here...it almost seems too good to be true!-but computer deals are probably better these days than in times past)

I can't believe this has so many 1 star ratings. I have had this laptop now for over 4 months and have had no problems with anything whatsoever. I've never bought a Gateway before, and I honestly never thought I would. After going through an Acer, which lasted me a little while but never truly enjoyed, I wanted to get something that I COULD enjoy. So I did some research and read some reviews and decided on buying this one. I spent a little bit more then I had hoped, but boy was it worth it!

Absolutely love the FULL size (or as one reviewer put it gigantic) keyboard with numeric pad. For the record I have small hands too! Probably not too good though if you are typing with 1 finger though. With some laptops the keyboards are so small I almost thought I could have been using a cellphone. As for the mouse, I never have liked any laptop mouses, and don't think I ever will which is why i just have a real one whenever possible. The design wasn't the best but its not hard to click down unless your like 3 years old and not any louder then a real mouse. But if you think it is you can just double tough the track pad and that works just like a left click.

I do like the power button on the side. However, I think they should tell you where the power button is. I had to google to figure out how to turn it on, I would have never thought to look on the side! I also like the touch pad panel controls. My cats have never turned anything off, heck even my little nephew hasn't turned anything off, then again I think kids like buttons they can really feel and see. Can it happen I'm sure, but really how hard is it to just turn it back on?

Battery life could have been better but they don't lie. I've seen some that say they have a 6 hour battery life and your lucky if they last for 4 doing nothing. This one does last 3 hours and you can physically surf the web and what not and get just about the full 3 hours.

I watch a lot of youtube, hulu, and what not so I absolutely love the widescreen. If thats not big enough for you, you can also hook it up to your tv, which I have not done yet because I think the screen is already big enough. I'm not much of a gamer, unless you consider Solitaire and Farmville, but I think you should have little problems with most of them. I have multiple windows and tabs open and the computer is still fast. I have 8 tabs open right now as I am writing this.

So look at the specs, look at the reviews, and then look at the price and YOU decide! I don't think you will disappointed if you pick this one though, I know I'm not!

I did not want to spend over $600 for a Notebook. After looking at the choices and some reviews, the Gateway seemed to be a good choice. So far I am pleased with the purchase. It felt lighter than the other Notebooks that I looked at. The speed is good to. Installed the full Office 2007 on it and the performance is still good. So far, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

I have had my new laptop for over a week and I really like it. It has the extra number pad to the right of the keyboard, and has plenty of features and the screen looks good and the 4 gigs of ram is great, a good amount for the memory hog of vista; my last one had 2 gigs and that was really not enough... The only thing I have not liked about this so far is the lack of bluetooth but that is easily fixed with a $15-$20 tiny usb adapter. Great all around unit, maybe could have used a spill resistant keyboard but I like it and for about half the price of sony (yuck) and other major brands. Highly recommended!

Screen is the best ever for a laptop. WOW! System is fast and easy to use. The keypad is a nice addition for a laptop. ONE BIG PROBLEM!!! I had to call Customer Support. It is in India!!!! They know NOTHING!. I wasted two hours on calls and never got an answer that made any sense at all and I'm a 40 year IT professional. All they did was ask the same questions over and over again from their "scripts." I would avoid future Gateway products, regardless of quality and price, due to this support failure on their part.

I purchased this laptop on July 24, 2009 in less than 2 months it has given me nothing but problems. The webcam stopped working. Then the screen display has a bright white spot shinning through it. A repair shop quoted me over $300.00 to fix it. Yes it came with a one year warranty but Gateway sold their warranty dept to MPC and they went into chap 11 bankrupcy and therefor I am out of luck with the warranty. I would not recommend this Gateway to anyone

Amazing laptop that has held up in ALL areas after a full year of ownership. Extremely satisfied and won't hesitate to get from Gateway (really Acer now) again! Dunno what the price is nowadays, but it was CHEAP when I got it. Overall, 5 stars!!
