I bought this one about a week ago because my 3 year old HP died.
So far I can find nothing wrong with it. Love the extended keyboard, keys are still big and feel just right and very responsive. Touch pad is a little too much to the left for my liking but I get used to that. Sound is fantastic and so much better then my old one and much louder too. It comes with very little bloadware that was easy enough to uninstall. 4 gigs of memory is just right and the 500 gig hard drive is a bonus. It's not very heavy at all and I noticed very little heat when I have it on my lap. I am very happy with my purchase which was on impulse, there were no reviews for it and I have never owned any Gateway products before.

I purchased this Gateway as a computer to use for games, pictures, music, etc. I'm a writer and wanted to be able to use my other laptop for work only. I haven't fully explored the computer yet, but I have no complaints about the Gateway NV5820. I like Windows 7 (even though I still hate Office 2007), and the other software that came as part of the package was nice. It was a little bit larger than I had expected, but this was a non-issue for me. I've seen some reviews that suggested there was something wrong with the touch pad. Personally, I have no trouble with it at all. And I LOVE that this laptop has a 10-key!

I would not buy another gateway computer. I had the laptop at school (living at school housing), and it was only a few months old, when it crashed and I couldn't recover all my saved records. I'm very disappointed since I thought I was buy a reliable laptop. Bad decision on my part.

Gateway customer service is bad. A customer rep entered the wrong registration date for my laptop. I have called 3 times, emailed and faxed the requested proof of purchase. They always say it will be resolved in 48 hours.It's been almost a month and the issue is still not resolved. And now they are claiming that they never received my fax. Something's wrong with the company. If they cannot resolve a simple issue like registration, how can they resolve bigger issues?! I will not buy Gateway again.

We had trouble accessing the Internet - we had to restore the computer to the original factory settings several times. After doing that the internet connection would work properly, but the next day the same thing would happen and we'd have to go through this same process. After several days of this we concluded that something was wrong with the computer and we returned it for a refund. My son bought the same computer in a store and had the same problem; he exchanged it for a different brand and has not experienced these problems with his new computer. Gateway's technical help via the phone came from some foreign country where the technical rep. had limited knowledge, having constantly to ask someone else for answers and give standard responses out of a manual. It a shame because I've owned several Gateway desktops and haven't had these problem. Sorry, Gateway. By the way, Amazon made returning the computer very easy - thanks Amazon.
