Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Broad enough for home-theater use and versatile enough to handle your PC viewing--not to mention simultaneous TV and PC viewing--Gateway's 30-inch widescreen LCD TV is one versatile television. The set's broad, sleek screen has a 15:9 widescreen aspect ratio that more closely matches the dimensions of your favorite movies than does a standard 4:3 screen.

The Benefits of HDTV
Standard TVs (SDTVs) display a maximum of 480 lines using the interlaced scan method, which creates a picture with alternating lines of information.
Enhanced-definition TVs (EDTVs) display a maximum of 480 lines using the progressive-scan method, which creates an image using consecutive lines of information for a crisp, flicker-free picture.
High-definition TVs (HDTVs) display a maximum of either 1,080 interlaced lines or 720 progressively scanned lines for the sharpest possible image.
Further, it's fully compatible with DTV set-top boxes and high-definition computer signals. It has component-video, VGA, and DVI (digital visual interface) inputs, as well as an NTSC tuner for immediate over-air reception. Hook it up with a progressive-scan DVD player to get the full benefit of your discs' seamless, 480p resolution--one of the component-video inputs is Faroudja-enhanced for maximum DVD quality.

LCD screens are more power-efficient than either CRTs or plasma screens, and while they may not be as bright, overall, as plasmas, they get more wallet friendly every week. You'll see none of the irritating scan lines or flickering that's visible on CRT sets or monitors, and you can forget about both ghosting and image burn-in, no matter how many hours a week you spend parked in front of your favorite video game.

PIP (picture-in-picture) lets you view any input (including your PC input) and one additional input or source at the same time. You can view with one image inset, or with two images side by side (picture-by-picture). You can swap images and you can even hear both sources using PIP sound. PIP positioning lets you place the inset image in an area of your choosing. The set allows you to view HDTV, PC, and DVI inputs as the main image with TV, composite-video, S-video, or DVD component-video sources as the secondary image, or vice-versa.

This Gateway TV is no slouch in the specs department, offering a 350:1 contrast ratio, high (450 cd/m2) brightness, and a wide, 170-degree viewing angle so the whole family can view the screen from just about anywhere in the room. For picture-style viewing, you can mount the TV on the wall using an optional wall-mount kit, and the set comes with a short stand to simplify desk- or table-top positioning.

Bass, treble, and audio balance controls let you tailor the set's sound output, and onboard BBE High Definition Sound improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages. For more spacious-sounding programs, SRS WOW technology simulates surround sound through any two speakers. The set's rear panel sports 8-watts-per-channel stereo speaker outputs (for use with optional Gateway 30-inch LCD speakers or other speakers), and you can always plug a pair of headphones into the set's headphone jack for private listening.

What's in the Box
TV, table stand, remote control, remote battery, an RF coaxial audio/video cable, an analog audio/composite-video interconnect, an AC power cord, a user's manual, a remote control user's manual, and warranty/registration information.

This review is from: Gateway 30" Widescreen HD-Ready LCD Flat Panel TV (Electronics)
Read prior review. My TV came with the speakers. I love this TV. It's casing color is difficult to find (a lite gold). Makes it stand out and looks great in my entertainment area.

2.0 out of 5 stars No audio, December 10, 2005
This review is from: Gateway 30" Widescreen HD-Ready LCD Flat Panel TV (Electronics)
The TV has no audio. If you do not purchase the speakers, there will be no sound. I was extremely upset to have to connect external audio system. The image is fine.
