Great LCD by Quality Manufaturer, Gateway.,
This review is from: Gateway - 17 inch Widescreen LCD Monitor Black - Model# FPD1775W (Electronics)
All You need to do is be sure your computor resolution is set for widescreen and your squares will look like squares.
Awsome monitor, got mine in a package deal and dumped my perfectly working (ok recycled at the recycling plant) my old 17" flat screen standard monitor. With it's anti-glare treatment it's much easier on the eyes than my old CRT monitor, no more headaches after a long day of data entry, a cleaner look to my desk, and not to mention room. This sleek, slim design is at least half the weight of traditional monitors making it much easier to clean around and under (those pesky dust bunnies get everywhere). From Gateway: View more content, work on multiple documents and enhance your game experience. Equipped with HDCP (High Definition Content Protection) to protect Digital Content Integrity Upgrade your experience with the optional, USB-integrated stand to switch from landscape to portrait mode with automatic image rotation. Affordable Widescreen HD Display The 17" widescreen LCD features exceptional High-Definition support for 720p through the DVI connection. 500:1 Contrast Ratio, fast 8ms Response time and Widescreen (1280x720) resolution for game play and productivity. Environment Friendly Emits less heat and consumes less energy than a traditional CRT display. Energy Star® compliant.

What's with all of the negative reviews here? Just because people are unfamiliar with their computer settings and don't know how to adjust resolution and monitor settings does not mean they can blame it on the monitor. This is a great monitor with a crisp display and excellent color. Just as important, it is well built and is of high quality, unlike other monitors I have owned.

I was on the hunt for an inexpensive desktop monitor, and I happened upon the Open Box buys at Best Buy. This monitor was in the display for $119.99, a GREAT price.
I will be using it for a variety of purposes, but I hooked it up to my MacBook Pro as a secondary monitor just to try it out and see how it looked. Well, it looks great! The 8ms refresh rate seems to work great with videos, compared to some Samsung 15" flat panels that I purchased back in 2001. The resolution is a nice 1280x720, and it has both DVI and VGA inputs (and you can plug two things in and toggle between them!) For what I need and for what I paid, this monitor was a GREAT deal!

I recieved the wrong item despite what was listed. I had got the 5:4 model of the gateway which was 1280x1024. The monitor was in near perfect condition but it wasn't what I paid for.

It's amazing how many one star reviews there are here ... seriously, don't these guys know any 10 year olds who can set up a monitor? I bought this of CL for $40 - it works with Windows 7 and an XBox 360 using a three dollar HDMI to DVI cable. I'm actually surprised how nice the picture is considering I'm not a big cheerleader for Gateway. Anyways, it's a keeper - it's 17 inches, slightly bigger than most full-size laptops, bigger than the TV I had in college.

I purchased this monitor in January '09, and it is now very fuzzy (it's been 8 months) and Gateway said it is not under warranty. I basically have to pay to get it repaired or toss it and get something else. Oh - I also have the option of paying Gateway tech support to tell me to repair it or toss it. No thanks.
This monitor is also small. If you are buying it online, make sure you look at the size specs. I bought it online and was disappointed.

the wide screen distored the images.. I did not like it at all, had to send it back. I was charged a restocking fee, plus $20. shipping to return it.. I am out $50. and still no Monitor.. What a jip.

I like my squares to display as squares, and on this widescreen monitor I get rectangles.
There does not appear to be a way to revert to normal screen width, so on a desktop you have to turn your head back and forth to read the stretched out screen. NOT good for office work. Might be OK for viewing DVDs of movies, but that is really all I can think of as a use for this fairly expensive monitor. OH, the 8mps refresh rate is not great. |
