What a wonderful peek into the past. Making of the quilts was so difficult yet they look so homey and warm against the cold Utah winters. It is not really about Mormonism as a religion but because almost all the pioneer women were Mormon it certainly plays a part. It is about creating something beautiful from so little in rugged, harsh living conditions. The photos of these women look so stern yet their stories are a compelling look at the love they had for their families and their neighbors.

I purchased this book for genealogy research purposes. I knew that my mother's family were handcart pioneers and my mother had spoken of her "Aunt Aggie" and her quilts. Not much else was known about her and there are no surviving photographs...until I purchased this book. The book was fascinating...a story accompanies each quilt photo AND I found Aunt Aggie! Mother also identified neighbors and friends. This book has a special place on my "Treasured Book Shelf".
