About the Author
Cornelius Eady is the director of the Creative Writing program at the University of Notre Dame. He is the co-founder and vice president of Cave Canem, a retreat for African-American poets. Among his many awards are the Academy of American Poets Lamont Prize and fellowships from the Rockefeller and Guggenheim foundations. Eady was a finalist for the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for his music-drama "Running Man" and the 2001 National Book Award for "Brutal Imagination," He is the author of seven previous volumes.
Camille T. Dungy is Associate Professor of Creative Writing at San Francisco State University.
Elizabeth Alexander was born in New York City and grew up in Washington, DC. Her collections of poetry include American Sublime, Antebellum Dream Book, The Venus Hottentot, and Body of Life. Her poems, short stories, and critical writing have been widely published in such journals and periodicals as the Paris Review, American Poetry Review, The Village Voice, and The Washington Post. She teaches in the English and African American Studies Departments at Yale University.
Harryette Mullen, a professor of English at UCLA, is the author of six collections of poetry, most recently Recyclopedia, which won a PEN Beyond Margins Award
