Editorial Reviews

About the Artist
Bursting out of the Bay Area as Legacy in 1983 and later molding into the classic line-up that would be remembered for years, Testament was birthed in 1986 at a time when thrash metal was just beginning to change the American Musical landscape. With a handful of timeless classics released through the 80s and 90s, Testament was one of the few bands that seemed to get angier, thrashier and more intense with each release. Case in point: the scathing guitar work, frantic rhythm section and ever-increasingly intense vocal deliveries of main-man Chuck Billy on two of Testaments's most brutal albums, 1997's Demonic and 1999's The Gathering.

Product Description
Features Dave Lombardo (Slayer), James Murphy (Death, Obituary), and Steve DiGiorgio (Death). Chuck Billy's most vicious vocal performance, a return to thrashy riffs and solo from Eric Peterson and James Murphy.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of Their Best, January 9, 2008
I have followed Testament since the beginning, and I like alot of their material. But this was the first CD(LOW was close...)that just blew me away. While I wished Skolnick was still in the band and on this CD, James Murphy does an excellent job as usual(I just prefer Skolnick's lead style, esp. Practice What You Preach era.....). With the addition of Slayer's Ex drummer Dave Lombardo, & the great, powerful vocals by Chuck Billy(he has never sounded better.....), this awesomely produced collection of 'just-the-right length' metal songs is sure to be something all Testament fans will enjoy. This album starts out with a bang and never lets up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic redefined, January 8, 2008
By Michael "F*** off!" (FL United States) - See all my reviews
Odd thing about this release was I had bought it over a year ago. Sure enough, you can look it up online and see that it's out of print. For how long, I'm not sure. Such a good album though, makes it a rare gem to find. Well, apparently that gem has resurfaced along with the band's other release Demonic. What's new about it besides the fact that a different label (Prosthetic Records) decided to pick it up? Not much. You get new liner notes, plus the previously Japanese only bonus track Hammer Of The Gods. Also, this album never needed any remastering as far as I was concerned, but it's been done anyway. If you missed out on this great cd, here's your second chance. Owners of the previous release, do take notice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ear shattering thrash!., April 22, 2008
I can't think of a group that has been as consistently good as Testament, its like this group gets better with age. On Testament's eighth album The Gathering it seems like they were on top form, this album also has the best lineup I've seen so far. Joining the ranks of lead singer Chuck Billy and guitarist Eric Peterson is guitarist James Murphy, bassist Steve DiGiorgio and Dave Lambardo from Slayer making this an awesome lineup. This album definitely has a more tighter sound than the previous album with much better songs and theres less growling from Chuck and not to mention the riffs being faster and heavier with some extraordinary drumming (would you expect anything less from Lombardo?). The best songs are Eyes of wrath with its amazing solo at the end and True believer which was quite catchy if I don't say so myself. D.N.R. was also a great opening track and Legions of the dead was another highlight and also the heaviest track on the album and Careful what you wish for has some great lyrics showcasing the great song writing abilities of Chuck. Sewn shut eyes and Fall of sipledome are the more thrashier songs and has Chuck growling alot which reminds you of the album Demonic which wasn't really a favorite of mine, I think that the Gathering was an improvement. Overall I would say that The Gathering was a great album thats worth checking out especially if your a Testament fan or like heavy thrash music, this remastered edition also includes a bonus track called Hammer of the gods which is an instrumental track.
