Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The Gator Grip Universal Socket is a universal self adjusting socket with automatic standard and metric application that instantly adjusts to grip hex nuts, screw eyes, hooks, lag screws, and bolt heads.Gator Grip especially works great on rusted and damaged heads.Gator Grip self adjust from standard 1/4-inch to 3/4-inch and metric 7mm to 19mm and has a torque of over 125 pounds.. The tool's socket contains 54 hardened steel spring pins for long-lasting durability. When placed onto a fastener, the center pins retract and the outer pins surround the fastener. As the fastener is turned, the torque is transmitted through the outer pins to the walls of the socket, making this socket an ideal choice for heavy-duty personal or professional use. The tool features a 3/8" drive. The ETC-120A comes with a Drill adapter that turns any drill or power screwdriver into a poeer socket set.

First of all, you have to ignore all the hyped up infomercial marketing. This socket will not replace your entire tool kit or socket set. But if you understand that this is a niche product then you'll be very satisfied with it. It's a "just in case" tool that's inexpensive and doesn't take up much space. If you need to remove an oddball nut/bolt or one that's stripped/rounded then this socket is a lifesaver. I don't use it very often but when I need it I'm glad it's in my toolbox.

Very clever idea, but doesn't always work. Requires socket to be accurately square to the bolt and centered carefully. I used it with an impact driver to set some lag screws. Difficult to start the screws. Ended up drilling pilot holes. Once started, the screws went in reasonably well, although the final tightening was done with a ratchet and correct size socket. Good toy, may work in specific situations, but I wouldn't want to rely on it.

This works very well. Plus it's quick to grab from your tool box. Keep your sockets, however. I'd give it 5 stars but after moderate use the pins failed and I had to toss it. For light applications it should be fine.

Stupid me, doing a flush on my truck. Without making sure I can loosen drain plug bolt, Pour the flush, then wait last minute, when to drain the oil. Nope stripped... Called every where, yes truck is not drivable. Guy from Oreily's said he had something that was a universal size. Bought gator gripped the bolt, like its name. Had to square my body with truck, hang on and leg press the ratchet. What do you know, loose bolt. Only thing is 1 pin got stuck in the socket. Wasn't disappointed since I leg pressed it. Just returned for a new one, just in case... Great product overall, would recommend for anyone, any shop. Wouldn't say for heavy duty but worth it than any other method of removing a stripped bolt, without getting to creative.

I used this to dismantle a garage door that was severely damaged. The all the hardware and cables on the door were twisted and messed up pretty bad from being hit by a car and the subsequent trying to open and close the door. I was able to remove tough nuts and bolts with this that were badly damaged and didn't want to ruin finer tools doing the job. Using a combination of the gator grip with a skil ratcheting screwdriver and a craftsman max access I easy removed nuts that were in odd angles. I was a little harder on it than I wanted but it held up.

Due to the extreme nature of my situation I had to put the gatorgrip head on some nuts at an angle with the socket not fully on. Even then it was able to securely hold the nut and remove it without slipping. I don't know any other socket that can do that. I was so frustrated at how badly the door was damaged I didn't care if I broke the socket I just wanted the door down. The pins were being torqued but I didn't damage them. After getting most of the job done I realized that the pins weren't going to break I tried being a tad more cautious. The nuts were very rusted with some damaged head and stuck on really tight so there was a lot of torqueing.

It seems the adaptor it prone to stress more then the socket so that the adaptor might snap if you really push it but I would rather have to replace that for $1.49 than the socket at $11 so seems that was intentional. If torqued the adaptor will fail before the socket or it's pins in most cases I believe.

Definitely recommend because it was a lifesaver fitting nuts and bolts of various sizes and seemed to remover then easier than conventional sockets.

I had to run out to the store in the middle of an oil change b/c I didn't have any sockets that fit my truck's drain plug. I didn't know what size I needed (later found out the problem was that my tools were SAE and I needed metric). This little tool came to the rescue!

I love it because it works for both SAE and metric fittings and you never have to worry about which size to get-- this really works. And I love how it's made in America.

good for wing=nuts onlhy---the ones you can put on/remove by hand anyway. This does not get anything that is remotely tight--off or on. It will basically strip or disintigrate either the nut or itself. The first one I had (a gift) I was using it to put christmas toys together. After using it for a few minutes all of the little wire sections were not where they were supposed to be. Some were sticking out 1/4 in, and others were recessed. I returned it and didn't use it for a while. Then, I had a stripped bolt on an alternator, and I couldn't get it off with traditional tools. I remembered this, and got it. It wouldn't grab the nut, and I kept trying. Finally I got it to grab a little bit and carefully tried to remove it. It damaged the nut more, and the tool ---all the pieces came out. So these are a gimmick and except for using in very light duty situations, they do not work. I can see using them for putting together a cosmetic garden cart (I did) which is done with wing nuts, and by hand. But you dont need it--its done by hand--so thats all its useful for. I have tried this for easy jobs, --christmas toys, and hard jobs, (the car). If failed on both. . The concept is good, the execution is severely lacking. If this worked, or this idea worked, it would be in every mechanics tool box for difficult situations. Its not because Its junk. Save your money and buy the right tool, the right bolt remover, and no, this wont replace every tool in your tool box. I give them 5 stars for the line, "replaces every tool in your box", thats ingenious. However, it only sounds good. Thanks
