After getting a Gator Grip tool for Christmas, and it being indispensable in two large projects--refitting new lumber on an old rotten picnic table, and in putting up a new garage door opener, I followed up with my own purchase of the King Gator--for larger nuts and bolts.

Keep in mind--IT's NOT FOR EVERY JOB. Because the pins are cylindrical, it occasionally slips on the bolt head, and it lacks the gripping strength needed for working on something like your car engine, or lug nuts tightened with an air-hammer.

Even the King Gator will NOT remove a nut if there is a given length of bolt sticking out the back end. The pins can only retract so far.

HOWEVER, if you are up on a ladder, and/or working with many odd-sized nuts and bolts, this tool is a Godsend.

For overall home maintenance, play set assembly, garage door opener installation, or putting together knockdown furniture, the Gator Grip tools can't be beat. (I only cussed about fourteen times while installing my new Garage door opener. That was a new record!)

As a GIFT, I'd recommend the standard Gator Grip tool (especially for those people who are NOT handy around the house.)
But if the gift-ee already has a Gator-Grip, this is a thoughtful and helpful idea.

I have been using different Gator Grip products for long. This is the larger size for larger bolts and nuts. I used the regular size more but this King size is no lesser value. I have nothing but positive things to say about King Gator but on the other hand I remember talking to someone who did not like it as much as I did. It turns out this guy used the tool with an air/impact gun , which is not recommended by the manufacturer. If you use it with regular 1/2" wrench it works. Obviously the guy did not know what he was doing. If one is not careful enough to read the package I think whatever happens after is not manufacturer's fault.

Like I said I use the 3/4" size Gator Grip more but this King Size definetly is a great fit on larger applications. I do highly recommend it for stripped, damaged , rusted nuts and bolts, King Gator turns them without a lot of effort.

I bought the King Gator socket hoping to use it on the cover for my house's water feed at the street. This cover has a pentagonal-shaped "nut" and, rather than buy a dedicated (and expensive) socket for that, I figured I'd try the Gator Grip socket with its ability to conform to odd-shaped sockets. This would have worked except that the barrel of the Gator Grip was so large that it didn't fit in the recess of the cover! This is not really anything wrong with the Gator Grip, but it does highlight a potential problem if you want to use it in an area of tight clearance.

I was impressed with the construction and finish of the Gator Grip socket, and the pins were very beefy. I do note that when you buy it from Amazon it comes in a plain cardboard box, not the retail card packaging as shown in the picture.

I got this socket to see if it could remove a stripped nut on my lawnmower blade. The nut was in bad shape and I considered cutting it off. I tried the Gator Grip and it worked like a charm. It can take the place of a complete socket set. Great tool !

I lost a wheel lock key for one of my vehicles and I needed to get the old wheel locks off so I could put regular lug nuts on. I bought this tool just for this task and it performed it wonderfully.

I moved to an apartment and have been trying to condense. Long story short, I bought the gator grips and got rid of all my old "sets" (which always seemed to be missing the right part or handle anyway). I use them mostly with my power drill or stand alone. I have not had any problems on all my household stuff. Also great for keeping toolbox free of clutter. Great gift idea! Mom will be getting some for Christmas.

I work construction and constantly run into situations were I need some odd shaped tool to get off a rusted non-standard nut or bolt. This thing saves us hours of frustration and makes me look like a genius to my crew. The thing is massive though, so it wouldn't fit into a supertight space. I also recommend trying to keep dirt and debris out of it or cleaning it after use as I have a few of the small ones and the pistons stop working if too much dirt goes in there.

It's ok. Don't think I'd purchase again. Kind of bulky. May be great for jobs where you have plenty of room to fit the tool into. Definitely didn't work well when working on my motorcycle.
