Gavin is ridiculous,

Gavin Harrison has got to be one of the best drummers of our time. He makes the incredibly complicated look amazingly simple. His style of teaching on this disc is excellent and very easy to understand. However, the lessons he teaches on this disc are definitely NOT for the beginner. The concepts and complex time signatures are WAY over my head, but I just enjoy watching the guy play. If you've never seen him play before PLEASE do yourself a favor and buy Porcupine Tree's 'Arriving Somewhere..." DVD. It is, quite simply put, sublime. PT are the best band that no one in America knows about. Gavin Harrison has surpassed Neil Peart as my favorite drummer, in no small part, due to this disc. BUY IT!

Gavin Harrison never ceased to amaze me. Despite his technical facility in rhythm and time, he's got great pocket and creativity. I love his take on polyrhythms and ideas for overriding. Amazing work!

I first heard Gavin Harrison back in the 80's and if anyone that's qualified to team up with "King Crimson" there's no one better than
Gavin, he is indeed Unique and a Musician at Heart. Thank you Gavin.

After watching this DVD all the way through, I wanted to throw my drumsticks out the window and burn my kit. His concepts are just mindblowing, yet he does them with such ease and control.
Highly reccomended for anyone moving up from professional drumming to God-like drumming! Good luck!

Notably one of today's most prolific drummers, Gavin Harrison is a joy to see and hear play. Though this is not a sit-back-and-listen dvd, there is a lot of instruction, and you'd better be skilled in mathematics to be able to follow all of the things he plays, he does delight with some interesting rhythmic ideas and approaches. More for the intermediate drummer, there's a lot to learn, I had to watch it a number of times to fully understand some of what was being shown, but definitely a good one to watch. There's even a section with just Gaving playing songs if you do just want to watch him play. If you're serious about time-keeping and not just 4/4, this is a good one to watch.

About average drum video,
This review is from: Gavin Harrison Rhythmic Horizons (DVD)
I agree with the other reviewers that Gavin is very talented and has great musical taste. I say the video is "about average," because, like most drum videos, there is a lot of great performance footage, but the actual lessons cover very little. Most advanced drummers will already know the concepts covered here, but will have chosen not to devote time to developing them. For the most part, they are impractical, unless your band plays "hide the time signature," like porcupine tree.
