5.0 out of 5 stars Gaviscon is the BEST!!
I have used Gaviscon for years. It works great anytime, but mainly to take before bed, to help with acid reflux. It forms a foam cap at the top of your stomach, which helps to keep the acid from washing back up into your throat. Could not live without it!! Great seller too. Shipped it fast!!

2.0 out of 5 stars very expensive; liquid form cost less; other meds work better
I frequently use this antiacid, but I don't recommend it.

1. It is, by far, the most expensive solution. Proton inhibitors work better, cost a little less, and all other antiacid types cost less.
2. Gaviscon's advantage is some form of coating that is believed to float on top of stomach acid, which make the antiacid last longer. And there's some merit...

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well for GERD, November 6, 2010

This stuff simply works for my GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). I normally get reflux at night; when I do, I just take one of these and within 15-30 minutes I feel better. The other stuff I have tried (antacids, Pepto Bismol, vinegar) don't work nearly as well.

This is a great product and MUCH better than taking TUMMS. It takes a bit to get used to the new taste (much different than Tumms), but it is better for you apparently. I'm not a doctor. This is a 5 star product and the price here is much better than CVS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for GERD, January 5, 2012
This review is from: Gaviscon Extra Strength Chewable Antacid Tablets, Original Flavor, 100-Count Bottles (Pack of 2) (Health and Beauty)
I take a PPI daily for my GERD and gastritis but it doesn't cure my symptoms completely. I recently bought this on a whim and take 2 tablets after a meal, 1 tablet before bed, and it works incredibly well, and for a few hours.

Gaviscon is far better than Tums (or any other calcium antacid) as calcium has been shown to actually cause the stomach to secrete more acid, so by the time the hour is up and the tums has passed through your stomach, your symptoms are likely to rebound and then some. Studies in medical journals have concluded they may actually cause more harm than good because of the increase in acid production. Aluminim and magnesium antacids are what you want for GERD.

This also lasts longer and is more effective as it creates a physical foam barrier atop your stomach liquid, neutralizing acid and preventing the acid from travelimg back up to your esophagus and lungs.

The taste is chalky vanilla, kind of sweet with a sour kick. It's not bad at all; I think you'd have to have quite sensitive taste buds for this to taste "gross" as some have indicated. And honestly, if the fact that it doesn't taste like gummy bears detours you, your indigestion probably isn't bad enough to need this anyway.

Try it! Cheers : )

If you at a rich meal, maybe a coctail or 2 and you are worried about indigestion, Gaviscon is the best.

Started using these years ago and still using them.
I keep them at work for my crew and they all say there really good.
Way better then what they normally use and with that, it keeps them
on the job and working.

And there's some merit to this. So, I tend to believe that for sleeping at night, this antiacid lasts longer than others. However, if one can use proton inhibitors, they work far better.
3. The tablet form is a bit sugary and is more costly than the liquid form. So, if you're using it prior to sleep, brushing teeth is troublesome.

Essentially costs about 5 to 7 times the price of generic antiacids, so unless you know why you need this, I recommend against it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Can't get past the taste!, June 7, 2010
This review is from: Gaviscon Extra Strength Chewable Antacid Tablets, Original Flavor, 100-Count Bottles (Pack of 2) (Health and Beauty)
Whether or not Gaviscon works will be an unknown to me as I could not stomach the taste. It's almost an indescribable taste, I suppose kind of like a vanilla flavor but not a pleasant tasting vanilla. It also comes in cherry flavor but honestly I'm not willing to spend more money experimenting. I'll go back to Extra Strength Tums! So does it work? I don't know! Does it taste bad? Very! There are too many choices for Antacids out there to settle for this.
