Book Description

September 18, 1987 0275923703 978-0275923709
This insightful new work deals with all of the contemporary issues concerning parenting by gay men and lesbians. It is designed to broaden readers' thinking on homosexuality and homosexuals in general; to include the dimension of children and parenting within the context of the homosexual family; and to provide specific information about it. The book also includes data on the children of gay and lesbian parents, as well as a discussion of alternative forms of parenthood such as adoptive and foster parenthood, stepparent families, and gay men and lesbians in heterosexual family unions. Because of their special significance, there are separate chapters on legal issues, counseling needs, and social psychological concerns for gays and lesbians considering parenthood.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“Professor Bozett has been the leading scholar in the study of gay and lesbian parents and their children. His work is of inestimable value because it illuminates the path for the family's future by pointing to its redefinition and to alternative roles parents and children can play in each other's lives. I recommend the book for gay and straight readers alike.”–John P. De Cecco, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology and Human Sexuality Studies, San Francisco State University, and Editor, Journal of Homosexuality

4.0 out of 5 stars good early book on gay parents, June 11, 2003

(REAL NAME)
I read this book while doing an internship at the National Center for Lesbian Rights in San Francisco. The editor, F. Bozett, was an expert on gay fathers just as Cynthia Patterson is an expert on lesbian mothers. The book covers many relevant subjects such as gay foster parents, gay parents in heterosexual marriages, etc. ... This book is designed more for researchers and college students. Still, I think Mr. Gay John Doe and Ms. Lesbian Jane Doe would find it accessible and interesting.
