From Library Journal
This handbook of wit and wisdom is intended for "second-generation gay American men," those who have "comfortably integrated homosexuality into the whole person." Grouped into the categories "Health & Image," "Home," "Love," "Culture & Leisure," and "Gay Identity," the 42 essays include personal narrative, advice, humor, and historical analysis, all advocating self-acceptance. The writing is very uneven; even the pieces by Armistead Maupin, Samuel Steward, and Donald Vining are not among their best. As a guide to gay culture and lifestyle, this collection lacks the depth of Lavendar Culture , edited by Karla Jay and Allen Young (Jove, 1978). James E. Van Buskirk, Acad. of Art Coll.
