Porn stars burn bright, but they don't always leave a lot behind. The history of the men, the changing fashions, the bodies that imprint on each generation would, if not for this book, be consigned to a dustbin. The book is epic, helping to illuminate what made each of these men distinctive and why, in their own way, each was important.

There have been a few small porn histories -- mostly narrowly focused bios -- where Gay Porn Heroes is encyclopaedic with facts, stats, stories and, of course, great pictures. It's really invaluable for porn fans. Really brilliant, and really hot, too.

Bruno Gmünder Verlag has produced a volume GAY PORN HEROES: 100 MOST FAMOUS PORN STARS with written commentary (both in German and in English) by JC Adams of well researched and readable interview like backgrounds of the 100 Heroes of Porn. The book is a hefty one, large in size and with some of the finest color reproductions available. It is a book of photographs of the kings but it is a book that creates categories for the types of stars bodies and personalities and positions in the world of porn.

The categories created are as follows: The Blonds, The Bodybuilders, The Boy Next Door, The Dreamboats, The European Fantasy, The Hairy Men, The Macho Men, The Specialists, The Superhung, and the Top 10 Icons. Each of the 100 men is shown with multiple photographs of the models themselves in tandem with the covers of the films they've made famous. JC Adams' writing style is so conversational and informed that we feel as if we understand each of these Heroes and how they respond to their occupation and to the world in general. This is a book rich (and stimulating) in entertainment while at the same time being a very human approach to an industry whose workers are indeed stars in their own right. Highly recommended.
