Gay Themed Books

Grand Duchess Olga
The list author says: "Here I list my favorite and least favorite gay themed books. I only used to list my favorite, but people would write to me and suggest books I've already read but didn't like. Not that I don't want you writing to me with suggestions, please do! My address is clockworkgirl21@yahoo.com."

"This isn't bad, but one read through it will last you a few years."
Rainbow Boys
Rainbow Boys
"VERY good. It's more aimed at gay teenaged males, but lesbians can enjoy it, too."
Rainbow High
Rainbow High
"It seems that most people prefer the last book to this one, but personally, I liked this one better."
Rainbow Road
Rainbow Road
"The last of the series. Good, but not as good as the first two."
Dare Truth or Promise

Rubyfruit Jungle
Rubyfruit Jungle
"More aimed at females in their 20s I believe, but I enjoyed it."
The Picture of Dorian Gray and Other Writings (Bantam Classics)
The Picture of Dorian Gray and Other Writings (Bantam Classics)
"I think most people my age, 17, would hate this since it's a very old classic, but I love it. The homosexuality is very subtle, however."
Good Moon Rising
Good Moon Rising
"Pretty much the same story as Annie On My Mind, except a different time and setting. But you know anything like AOMM has to be good."
The Drowning of Stephan Jones
The Drowning of Stephan Jones
"I'm a bit mixed on this one. The characters were sort of flat, except for Stephan's partner at the end. It's heartbreaking."
The Front Runner: A Novel
The Front Runner: A Novel
"It can be a little slow if you aren't interested in sports, but it's a wonderful gay love story."
The Arizona Kid
The Arizona Kid
"I read this during my free time at school, and soon read it for a 2nd and 3rd time."
Fingersmith
Fingersmith
"It's a long read, but pretty good."
Keeping You a Secret

The Year They Burned the Books
The Year They Burned the Books
"Not bad, but I expected more out of Nancy Garden."
Girl Walking Backwards
Girl Walking Backwards
"Very weird, but good."
Tipping the Velvet: A Novel
Tipping the Velvet: A Novel
"If you liked Fingersmith, you'll like this one."
The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red
The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red
"Not a whole lot of homosexuality, but it's a great horror book. The main character does have a relationship throughout the book with another woman."
The Dreyfus Affair: A Love Story
The Dreyfus Affair: A Love Story
"I expected a less depressing Frontrunner, but this wasn't it. Not worth my time reading. Most of the characters are unlikeable, and I had to push myself to finish it."
Geography Club
Geography Club
"I didn't even finish this one. Boring, and didn't pull me in at all."
A Great and Terrible Beauty (The Gemma Doyle Trilogy)
A Great and Terrible Beauty (The Gemma Doyle Trilogy)
"This is another that really didn't have a whole lot of homosexuality. It's only talked about a few times, and hinted at. I didn't pick it up because I heard anything was hinted in it, but because I also like to read about the Victorian days. I guess you could say it's on this list by accident. Anyway, it's a great book."
Empress of the World
Empress of the World
"Another one I put down before I finished. The characters were very flat, and it looks like the author tried to give them weird names (like Battle) to make up for that."
Bittersweet
Bittersweet
"This starts out a bit slow, but gets a lot better. The character Sarah really developes. I enjoyed it."
The Brothers Bishop
The Brothers Bishop
"I really enjoyed reading it, but I'm not quite sure about my opinion on it. The main character, Nathan is very likable, but his brother, Tommy isn't. I found him annoying. (spoilers) But I was a little sick at the thought that the author probably saw his character, 15-year-old Simon, as a rape victim. This kid was NOT raped. He consented to it, and he was old enough to know what he was doing."
Brokeback Mountain
Brokeback Mountain
"I can't say I enjoyed this short story. It was boring, and I couldn't wait for it to be over. But I did enjoy the movie."
Breakfast with Scot
Breakfast with Scot
"Oh, dear, BORING. I didn't get far."
Without You: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and the Musical Rent
