A wonderful rendition of one of the most sacred vedic mantras,
This review is from: Gayatri Mantra (MP3 Download)
There are perhaps more musical settings for this mantra than can be counted (including, oddly, the rendition used in the opening credits from Season 2 of "Battlestar Galactica"). Having heard many of them I find this one a personal favorite. The musical texture created by the artist flows beautifully with this mantra, both capturing and reflecting its tri-part essence of reverence, praise, and prayer. While some may quibble over certain aspects of Ms. Premal's pronunciation (vowel accents - particularly in the opening, mahavyah'ti, 'vareniyam' vs 'varenyam', the barely voiced 'nah', etc.) I think that all misses the point. Coupled with Premal's lovely voice this particular rendition... sings! (And on those occasions when when I find myself using this mantra to settle and focus my mind? For all that I first heard and learned this set to a different rhythm, I now choose to follow Ms. Premal's notes faithfully, simply altering the pronunciation to better match the manner of speaking hindi taught to me when I was but a wee child.)

Divine Mantra,
This review is from: Gayatri Mantra (MP3 Download)
I've enjoyed listening to Deva Premal for a few years and was ecstatic the first time I heard this mantra. The pulsing rhythm and sweet voice move me beyond the mind, connecting to a deeper, divine space. I prefer her solo albums, but also really enjoyed Tibetan Mantras for Turbulent Times with the mix of her sweet voice and the deeper voices of the monks. All divine experiences!
