This is an outstanding recording, in both sound and performance. It was recorded by the short-lived Belock Recording Company (1958 - 1960) and first issued as a stereo LP on the Everest label. This CD is now out of print, but if you can find one, get it (if the price is not unreasonable).

Aquí podemos apreciar una grabación histórica realizada por la London Symphony Orchestra y el legendario director Anatol Fistoulari quien nos deja este legado musical. Un ballet muy interesante compuesto por el armenio Aram Khacahturian, compositor contemporaneo. Esta obra contiene melodías con toques orientales que nos llevan imaginariamente a las lejanias de los reino rusos y su blanca y agreste estepa invernal.
Una orquestación excelente y potente, con armonias post-impresionistas donde se puede notar la influencia de otro gran maestro ruso de la orquestación Rimsky-Korsakov. Realmente una joya que debemos disfrutar. Lástima que no haya una nueva reedición de estas maravillosas grabaciones.

In all respects, except one, this is an excellent recording capturing the moods of the Suite. The exception, Sabre Dance, is played at permanent frantic, fortissimo, with the snare after beats dominating the melody. The tempo is much faster than real people can dance to. It is not unusual for symphonies to play ballet music faster than a ballet orchestra would dare, but this is extreme. If you are not looking for a particularly satisfying Sabre Dance, the rest of this recording is worth purchasing.
