The jury is still out on Hopsin
on June 10, 2012
Yes Hopsin is no doubt a very talented lyricist, but the beats/hooks/production value left something to be desired on this album. I definitely think he's a diamond in the rough and may at some point buy another album of his. The problem is with the album, not with Hopsin himself. Two thumbs up on coming up with topics other that don't glorify drugs, guns and strip clubs, but he goes to far on track 8, "Bubblies", a song literally about passing gas. Also, evidently some woman really hurt him, because he takes it out on all women, by sprinkling a variety of derogatory things about the female gender in his songs. A few songs are specifically made for the purpose of disrespecting women like "Who do you think I am?", telling women he's not here to be a friend or confidant; he strictly wants to sleep with them. And "Don't Trust Em'", which is a warning to all men that all women are liars and cheaters. It's definately not a CD for the squeamish or easily offended.
