I have to admit liking the GeForce 8400 GS chip set. It's cheap. It does not require new connections to the power company. And it performs nicely, though not spectacularly. I don't need spectacular.

This is my favorite of the 3 or 4 different varieties I've bought over the last couple of years. The heatsink is big enough to not require a fan (less noise) and appears to keep the card within a nice temperature range without extravagant case cooling. The 1GB of memory is also nice, although I come from the stone age and have a difficult time understanding why 1MB is no longer adequate (I used to own a Matrox Millenium - 1MB of memory and considered a top card at the time (1990-something; pre-AGP (i.e. PCI-33), if you are a true geek)).

Asus provides a cool and entertaining utility that, among other things, shows the current card temperature, which seems to keep itself about 40c (about 107f), very nicely within comfortability. It's a fairly busy app, but I run a quad, so I can spare the processor cycles.

The fit and finish of the card is above average as well.

Install was straight forward and easy. Had it now for a little over a week and seems speedier than the board it replaced. Doesn't get hot so passive cooler works fine. Good bargain for those of us not into gaming. Works great for streaming HD video. Check dimensions before purchasing, some dimensions on some products are incorrect. Make sure you have space so cooling fins fit.

Has dmi & hdmi output. I have dual monitor setup on home built pc. One was digital, one analog. I wanted both digital. Bought this product and cable which has hdmi to dvi ends...problem solved. Works perfectly.
