4.0 out of 5 stars Yes it works - yes it's cheap
The GeMagic DOES work. You do have to read the instructions. That is something most people are not fond of however so a poor design is often blamed for operator error. That being said, this thing is poorly made - however it is only $20 so don't expect forged steel and precise hinges. This could be made much better, but would you buy one at $100? 1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
I bought this to make a Valentine's Day shirt for my daughter. The plunger would not spring back the way it is supposed to so each time I wanted to set another gem I had to take it apart, pull the spring apart, then put it back together and load another gem. Finally, I decided it was easier to just push the gem in by hand, and bend the prongs in with needle nose pliers...

That being said, this thing is poorly made - however it is only $20 so don't expect forged steel and precise hinges. This could be made much better, but would you buy one at $100? You have to be very careful to line up the disc with the plunger or it will not work. The detent stop here is next to uselsss, so you have to eyeball it. I bought this for my wife at Walgreens (so I could easily take it back if necessary and I didn't have to deal with the rip-off 800 number on TV) and it works great. It is NOT a commercial duty machine, it is for the homeowner/hobbyist. If you are looking into mass production of beaded clothes, then you will have to investigate a higher quality product. Bottom line - if you want a low cost way to enhance some clothing and you don't mind spending some time doing it then this is a good purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars So easy, even a child can do it!, October 31, 2007
This little package is perfect. It is so easy to use and make drab items have that sparkle you want.

You set the stone where you want it on the fabric; the prongs that create the snapped in sparkle are on the wrong side of the fabric with the right side facing up. Press the handle down until you hear a click. You're done!

My 9 year old pal showed me how to work it because I was busy with other things at the moment I got it out for her. The next day my costume arrived for Halloween with a loose ribbon. I connected it to the garment in seconds with a sparkling bead, added one to the other side for symmetry, and voila -- it was perfect.

I have one kit and will be getting another one because it was so easy and so much fun that I'm leaving this one for my pal.

Five stars -- it makes your child feel like a very successful creator.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice product., May 15, 2007
I love this, but with one exception. The big, black gem placer is a little flimsy. It feels like it might separate at the top of the handle when pushing down on it. It usually feels like that when placing gems through thicker fabric. All in all it is a nice product for the money, and me and my girls have been having a good time with it and doing all sorts of things.

Finally, I decided it was easier to just push the gem in by hand, and bend the prongs in with needle nose pliers. After spending two hours making the shirt, my daughter wore it once. I hand washed it, and the metal on the gems rusted onto the fabric. Ughh, nothing seems to get rust out, so it was a big waste of my time and money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, you just have to have patience and use the smaller tool!, February 13, 2008
The Gemagic machine is basically a giant stapler, with studs and fake gems as the staples. You load the machine and then press down on it.
It takes patience - it works if you're willing to make sure every gem fits snugly inside the white holder (push it down ALL the way!) and then line it up with the machine's dent.
I found the mini magic tool works much better than the black plunger -you can sandwich the stud better between the fabric and the plunger. Still, the prongs don't always go all the way - sometimes all except one prong sticks out, sometimes it's two, and then I manually have to press down each prong with the tool. Luckily it's fairly easy, but it's a pain.
Also, I realized they can fall off if you're not careful. I bedazzled a tote bag only to find the gems near the bottom of the bag fell out after a time :(
But overall it's worth it if you're willing to be patient and detailed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for setting your luggage apart!, May 22, 2009
This review is from: GeMagic
I bought this product since it was rated better than the Bedazzler, and I needed something to decorate my luggage with. I wanted to be able to spot my bags without them looking tacky (fabric paint). It was very simple to use after reading the instructions, and the studs went through the thick fabric of my luggage to create a beautiful monogram.

2.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for, October 15, 2007
I have learned in life that you truly get what you pay for. This was a cheaply priced machine and the work that it does is cheap looking. When actually putting beads on things or rhinestones for that matter, the machine feels like it could snap under your grip at any given moment. It is a fun novelty for kids but the practical use is limited to non-existent.

5.0 out of 5 stars As-Seen-on-TV-Products - excellent customer service., July 13, 2009
This review is from: GeMagic
I placed my order for a GeMagic Bedazzler and when I receive it there was a slight problem. I made one phone call and the order was corrected with no questions or discussion any kind. I would definately place another order with As-Seen-on-TV-Products because of their excellent customer service.

4.0 out of 5 stars GeMagic made her birthday hilarious, August 12, 2007
By
I brought this for my cousins birthday. We both loved the Malcolm in the Middle episode when Malcolm & his mother were sick and confined to the bedroom and BeDazzled their entire room. The BeDazzler didn't get as good reviews as the GeMagic so I purchased this for her. It arrived before the designated cut off date and was in good condition. My cousin says its a little tricky to get the hang of using it, but she's now bling-ing everything in sight.
