My only complaint is that the product dimensions do not list the dimensions of the dog that this will fit. I purchased this backpack for our St. Bernard based on the other reviewer who bought it for his St. I had crossed my fingers hoping that this would fit since I can rarely find somthing that will.

In case anyone would like to know: the XL pack extends up to 37 inches around the chest and 39 inches around the stomach. The Dog that I bought this for is a 187lb St. Bernard (34in collar to bum, 46in chest, and 43in stomach). As far as length and neck placement this pack fits perfectly on him... just not around him. The last collar I bought for him was a 32in and this pack leaves more than extra neck space (about an extra 7 or 8 inches).

In the little time that I've been using this it has held up very well. When it can withstand that much dog, St. Bernard tug-of-war, and being used for daddy piggyback rides I'm sold. If you do need a larger one, I added on to the existing straps with an identical harness ribbon from JoAnne's with only a few stitches for less than $5. The canvas is easy to clean and thick enough that it does not rip easily. The fabric reminds me of Army duffle canvas; thick, green, durable, and bland.

As for how well it works, we adopted him a little later in life and training a dog who's bigger than you is not an easy task. For us, when we use the pack he says closer and feels like he's carrying precious cargo (sometimes the cat actually). I haven't read the Dog Whisperer review for the item, but I could not recommend this pack more. We've gone from him literally dragging me down the road on my stomach (no joke) to leisurely and controlled walks. After only a few weeks I'm recommending dog backpacks to all of my friends and have just ordered another XL one for our slightly smaller (and now jealous) St Bernard. It's every bit worth the money!

Wonderful backpack. Very durable. The straps everyone talks about that are too long and drag on the floor can be cut. And the cut does not ruin the strap. My dog has had hers for a while now and it is still in great condition. I also like the mesh top because it helps keep my dog cool during the summer.

We were excited to get a backpack for our dog, who gets a little overzealous while walking. We hoped if we could take him on longer walks with a backpack to carry snacks and water that he would really enjoy it, and be nice and worn out! Plus we'd get to exercise and not leave him at home.
When the item arrived it fit him really well, and we were looking forward to going out. Unfortunately, as we were literally walking out the door to go hike, the pocket on one side got caught on something and all of the webbing on the top tore as if it were nothing. It was literally destroyed in a matter of 2 seconds and we hadn't even gotten to use it yet! I've sent in a request for a refund, as it's obvious this stuff wouldn't hold up in an outdoors situation where the dog would be brushing past rocks and branches constantly. I was really disappointed because now we have to go looking for another backpack and the dog has to wait to go hiking on the weekends with us.

My dog and I love this backpack. She is a medium sized chocolate lab and it fits her really well. The straps are a little long-the bag could use some bands in which to secure the straps so they don't drag on the ground. The pockets don't have any extra pockets in them but it wouldn't be hard to sew a cell phone pocket in there. All in all, it's a great buy and really well made.

Just used this and it went so well. I got it because Cesar Millan recommends using one. I have a 13 lb poodle and wasn't sure it would fit. It does. I trimmed the straps after adjusting them. I love the mesh top to keep her cool. I gave her treats while I put it on and adjusted it. I put 13 oz in the pockets (6.5 oz on each side) the first time and off we went. I might increase that a little if she needs a touch more weight, later. Two blocks and she was perfectly focused. We adopted her 5 weeks ago and have been working every day. She's come a long way already, but putting the pack on her today was like flipping a switch. She just went into working mode. Fabulous!
(PS I'm an adult.)

My dog is in Dog Scouts (yes I know), and we needed to have a pack for out backpacking/hiking badge. I was really doing some research and wanting to buy the highest quality pack, but when it came down to it $70 was too much to spend on a dog backpack right now. I was lucky to find this pack on clearance at Petco for $12, so i decided to get it.

It is a nicely made pack and seems to be made out of a durable fabric. The pocket sizes are also really nice and can carry a lot of stuff, if needed. To get my dog used to the pack I take him on walks with it. We started off with it being empty and have slowly worked our way up to having some lightweight things in it. He seems to "enjoy" it well enough, no complaints from him and he gets right to walking. He does seems to be a bit more tuckered out at the end of walks now with the pack on.

I wasn't too keen on how it fit him though. Of course I tightened the straps up and trimmed them short but you have to balance out this pack. If something is slightly heavier on one side than the other the pack tends to slide towards that side, making it a bit uncomfortable for the dog. So, knowing this, be sure to have as even weight as possible on either side of this pack.

The straps go around he neck/chest area and then there are two straps that go under the belly. IF there was something that connected those straps to the chest strap then there wouldn't be a sagging issue with weight. That's about the only thing that I find bad about this pack. Also, for a border collie the pockets seem a bit on the large side. I don't think i will ever fill them up just because I'm not sure he'd be able to carry that much weight.
