Most Helpful Customer Reviews

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Mike HL on June 30, 2013
This cable most likely contains a fake/counterfeit chipset that is labeled as a Prolific PL2303 HX, but fails the Prolific chip ID test. The official Prolific drivers do not correctly install this cable, and the included CD drivers also fail to work. The Gear Head site appears to be outdated (2010 was the date I saw on the Contact Us page). The site shows USB cable products available for sale, including the 2050, but it has NO DRIVERS AVAILABLE for download from the Support page. The cable products aren't even listed there.

This should be a huge red warning light to anyone considering purchasing this product. Go buy one of the other cables that guarantees it contains a Prolific HX Rev D chip, or better yet contains an FTDI chip.

This device came with a CD with drivers that did not work and the drivers were not available for download from the manufacturers site. The purchase was a waste of money as the device is unusable. I would give it "0" stars but that option was not available :-(

Drivers don't work. Tried downloading from the Prolific (chipset vendor) site, but those don't work either. According to Prolific, this product likely uses a counterfeit chipset.

Run, don't walk, away.

The Win7_8 driver installs from the CD but when I plug in the cable the Device manager dialog indicates the device cannot start due to "Not enough Quota" Not enough virtual memory to run. DON'T BUY THIS DEVICE. I also found as the other commenters that there are no drivers online at the GearHead site. I suggest not buying anything from Gear Head. I have had much better success with Belkin products.
