PROS:
Convenient arrangement of USB and power connectors
The hub itself is very reliable

CONS:
Flimsy USB cable is unreliable and should be replaced with a quality cable (true of all USB hubs I've seen)
Power supply is modest and may not be adequate for use of many USB-powered devices

NEUTRAL:
This is a USB hub, not a charging device (true of most USB hubs)

THE HUB ITSELF

I bought this hub without reading the reviews first at a store, based entirely on the arrangement of the connectors, because I am building a permanent media zone on the back wall of my desk where I can easily connect devices temporarily for the computers below the desk. This one fits the space well and offers plenty of flexibility of where you can plug in the devices, plus having the upstream (source) USB connector and power connector on the bottom was convenient.

I have not had it long, but the hub itself is totally reliable in my limited experience. Usually hubs ARE reliable: all the problems people report usually come down to a cheap, flimsy cable that is intermittent or has failed altogether.

When I wrote this review, I saw that there were THREE one-star reviews. I believe ALL of them have problems because they are using the USB cable that came with the hub. If you simply throw that away and get a quality USB 2.0 A to Mini B instead, I think the hub will be reliable.

THE POWER SUPPLY

The USB 2.0 specification says that each port should be able to draw 500 mA (0.5 Ampere). This hub has 7 ports, so that means a power supply of 3500 mA or 3.5 Ampere would be appropriate design.

Windows constantly beeps every few minutes with the USB disconnect sound for every device plugged in it. Would not recommend.

I bought it recently at a local Fry's.
According to the description on the package, it should support unto 7 devices at the same time and blah blah.
It has its own power supply. so, I expected it will provide enough power even to external portable ODD and HDDs. However, it turned out that power supply was not stable. Connection kept lost especially when ODD and HDDs were hooked up, because they draws comparably more power than USB memories.

Their customer support even didn't know where it obtains power from. They thought it obtains powers from my PC's USB port. Surely USB cables does that. However, it has its own power supply. it should be sufficient.

I decided that this device has quality issue. It doesn't look to happen to my device.
I had some Gearhead devices, but usually quality was not good.
Don't buy this product.

When trying to synchronize the external hard drives connected to my laptop via the USB hub, the connection to either one or both drives is almost immediately interrupted; this causes the synchronization procedure to fail... It seems the chip in the hub is quickly overwhelmed with larger data being processed. (Who knows? This is just my guess.) Now I have to plug the drives directly into the laptop, which uses up the only two slots I have. Not having to do that was the reason for getting the hub in the first place... Without the hub everything works fine, so I know the hub is the problem.

Was getting ready to write a crap review for this as like the others mine just quit working. After reading a reviewer say he replaced the mini usb cable with a bitter quality, I decided to try this as well. Sure enough fired right up. Works! So...before you go throwing it away, try a different cable. I also previously had a usb extender on it as well. I removed that and replaced with a longer mini usb and all is working well again. For now...

I've had 2 of these, same deal. Worked for about a year, maybe a little less [?] and then USB info transfer stopped working but still transmits power. Mainly just use it for charging accessories now. Nothing lasts forever...don't expect this to. :-/
