This is a well made set of sockets. Someone else stated that these were the same design as a SnapOn set he had, I don't doubt that.

These are very thick-walled heavy sockets. The quality of the forging is quite apparent when you look down into the external-Torx form or up into the square drive socket form. Looks like some steel-shot deburring inside which shows as a very fine texturing. This type of deburring also adds some durability by further compressing the top layer of steel on the wear surfaces and removing sharp edges where fractures can start.

Machining that includes 45° chamfers on the outside edges and a decent but somewhat small knurled grip around the base, further the look and durability of these sockets. Though I think the knurl should be about twice the size it is, it still provides some extra grip when you have oily fingers.

These are very heavy sockets which is indicative of a quality tool steel coupled with a proper forging process. While I haven't needed to yet, I won't hesitate to pop one onto my impact wrench to torque out a stubborn stud, these are impact socket quality.

Another great selling point for me was the completeness of the sizes included in this set, most sets are lacking all the sizes. A reasonable price (~$32) for this quality and the sets completeness, compares as a much better value than the other brands I found in my search.

Their only downfall, and the reason I didn't give them 5-stars, is the black finish is not a high quality black-oxide. It's somewhat thin and under high intensity light I can already see tiny rust spots starting right out of the package. This means I'll have to thoroughly clean and oil at every use as oppossed to wipe off at every use and thoroughly clean and oil once a year. I'd pay more for a chrome plated version, if one was available, but all-in-all I'm happy I bought these.

These are quality sockets but they have thicker walls than normal sockets (similar to impact rated sockets), and may not fit in tight spaces. I bought these to change out the front wheel bearing on a Saab 9-5 Aero. I could not get the socket to fit on the bearing bolt heads as it was pretty close to the axle assembly. A regular thin walled socket would have worked. These didn't help me at all in this case. Just something to think about.

I read some conflicting information on the forums about the group of companies and brands associated with GearWrench products. To clarify, the GearWrench brand is owned by parent company Apex Tool Group and this set is made in Taiwan. Tools made in Taiwan are generally of better quality than tools made in China. Other hand tool brands under Apex Tool Group include Crescent, Armstrong, Nicholson, Lufkin, Jacobs, HKP, Jobox, Allen, Delta, Plumb, and Diamond. Some of the brands under this group are of high quality, others are of cheap quality so it's mixed. The GearWrench brand is considered a higher quality import brand. I still prefer US, German, or made in Japan tools vs. anything made in China or Taiwan, but this particular torx set appears to be of decent quality, and I can make an exception to my usual selection of premium tools since I don't use torx nearly as often as other tools.

So, after doing about a days worth of research... i discovered that many tools are made by Danaher Tool Group.

I bought the GearWrench Torx Set... they are IDENTICAL to my $230 snap on version...

This Danaher Tool Group manufacturers Snap-On / Matco & GearWrench !!!! So..... what did i do?

I sold my Snap-On Torx set on the huge online auction site e**y .... Sold my old snap-on set for a premium... and actually made money selling the snap-on used and got the same set brand new back in my tool box. PLUS... I got twice as many torx bits in this GearWrench set than what snap-on or matco sell you... for much less money and for 4x the amount of socket bits!!!!!

Either way - GearWrench Tools ARE AMAZING - especially since Amazon has them PRIME... and at GREAT Prices... let alone not being able to find these quality tools locally in your big box stores or auto parts stores.

These Torx Bits can not be touch... and since these big companies put their name on the GearWrench tool.... you can't go wrong, you're buying the BEST Brand in the business but with the GearWrench name !!!!

THE BEST !!!!! simply stated.

these are excellent quality. other reviewers are claiming these are the same as snap on and i believe it. i had to put a 3 foot long half inch breaker bar on one of these a few minutes ago because Saab uses external torx on everything and loc-tites the crap out of it. it didnt slip, jump, crack or even mar the bolt head as some poor fitting socket can. it just came loose. one of the bolts was also already marred from a previous mechanic but i just tapped the socket on that bolt with a hammer and still had great luck. im proud to have these. i have other GearWrench tools that im also happy with so i will keep buying for the price if it is simply discounted snap-op.

Best price for the range of sizes in this set. The 3 different drive sizes are very handy, just right drive size for the socket sizes.

I work on a lot of Rotax engines for SeaDoo so these are a must! It seems like E sockets are becoming more and more popular. Although I am not a big fan of this type of fastener head these sockets are dead on. Rather than spending 3-4 times as much on a Snap-On, Matco, etc set these are the same quality (probably the exact same ones really) and work great. The rail they come on holds on to the sockets nicely when not in use and they don't ever fall off. The black coating is exceptional and only starting to wear off on the socket I use most often but is only the coating. Not a single complaint here, and these will last a very long time.
