Performs as expected,
By Steven (Oakland, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: GearWrench 85050 1/4-Inch Drive Micrometer Torque Wrench 30-200 in lb (Tools & Home Improvement)
I chose the ¼-inch drive because I do most of the work on my car with ¼-inch drive sockets as opposed to 3/8-inch drive sockets. I figured I could always use an adapter to step it up to 3/8-inch drive when occasionally needed. The upper limit setting is also high enough for a lot of my work. The wrench came with test information at various torque levels documenting the accuracy of the torque settings.
I used this wrench to install the oil screen on my Porsche 356. This screen must be installed by progressively torquing ten nuts in a prescribed pattern. With the torque wrench I was able to do this reliably by setting the wrench at its lowest setting (30-inch lbs), tightening all nuts, then setting it to 40-inch lbs, tightening all nuts, etc. The clicking sound the wrench makes when it reaches the selected torque is positive and easy to detect. I cannot comment on the long term durability or accuracy of this wrench since I just purchased it and have used it only once. I first considered a Craftsman torque wrench but changed my mind after reading negative reviews. I know a professional mechanic that likes the GearWrench ratcheting box wrenches, so I purchased this GearWrench product assuming the quality would be comparable. I think it is made in the U.S. while other GearWrench products are made in China. GearWrench products are sold by Sears (and others) which means they are at least endorsed by Sears. I am totally satisfied with this product but gave it four stars since I don't know how durable it is.

What a deal,

I own a paintball shop and this wrench is perfect for the work I have to do on high pressure air tanks. No more guessing if the fitting is at the right torque. It is clearly marked and simple to use, the high chrome polish is flawless. This tool is abousolutely wonderful and for the price you can't beat it.
My friend is a mechanic and we tested my wrench with his the results were exactly the same. His cost three times what I paid for this one. Of course he explained that he had a lifetime warranty on his. Well I will be able to purchase three of these to his one. I have dealt with the company he deals with and I can tell you if you don't buy thousands of diollars of tools a year from these guys that warranty is a myth.

Ordered this from Amazon-ToolTopia after reading reviews. Also came with a 1/4" drive ratchet, dont know if it was a mistake in the order or a freebee. Was gonna order cheaper ($20) imported wrench from amazon but shied away from them. I don't have a calibrator so I cant test its accuracy.
It works ok, problems I have are: 1- you can barely read the engravings so settings require using a magnifier everytime to change settings. Much harder to see if its brightly lit out (fluorescent or sunlight). I tried to wipe on some black paint to fill in engravings but they are too light for any kind of paint or nail polish to hold. If the graduations were engraved alot deeper or more visible, It would've earned another star. Now a magnifying glass has to accompany this wrench everywhere it goes. 2- the "free" ratchet that came in the order has a better ratchet head, alot less play, feels like an SK. Both items are from GearWrench. If the torque wrench had the same head as the ratchet, it would've earned another star. BTW, the torque wrench is stamped "Made In USA" while the better feeling ratchet; "Made in Taiwan" Hmmmm...something is wrong here.
