5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product
Tool came in a nice case and has a solid feel. Only had a chance to use it at about 25 ft-lbs to install some plugs and the feedback is excellent when the torque limit is reached. Contrast on markings is poor (steel on steel) making reading the scale a bit difficult but not a big deal. Highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Plastic Handle...Really??
I purchased this torque wrench as a big fan of Gearwrench products. Normally, I feel like Gearwrench is a great value, with flank drive sockets and wrenches just like snap-on but at a craftsman price. Every time I need a new hand tool, I go to the Gearwrench catalog first.

That being said, I was very disappointed with this torque wrench. The handle is a hard...

Good quality and has a molded case. Needed a wrench with a lower range and this is it. Works for torquing bolts on my Harley that only require 10 ft lbs.

There's not a lot to say about a torque wrench other than a.) it's well made, b.) it's accurate, c.) it's easy to use and d.) it's durable. This one by GearWrench appears to be very well made -- the ratchet and torque adjustment mechanisms have a nice solid feel to them. I have no way of checking the wrench's accuracy so will take the maker's word on it. Setting the torque is easy and the lock prevents the setting from being accidentally changed.

Torque setting procedure easy & exact. Numbering system on wrench needs to be etched darker for easier reading.

I purchased this wrench to install a hitch on my car, it did a perfect job. Setting the torque is very easy, you can either choose pound/foor or newton/meter.

When you reach the torque setting the wrench "jumps" and makes a very audible noise, so there's no risk you'll exceed the desired amount of torque by accident.

The product seems very sturdy, it's a bit expensive but it looks like it will last a lifetime.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good enough, October 26, 2010

I'm not a hard-core wrencher. While I do enjoy messing around w/ my car, I haven't really gotten into *major* mechanical stuff (i.e. engine/drivetrain/suspension stuff). Most of my fiddling is limited to simple plug and play electronic mods, and only the super-easiest of bolt on parts. I recently needed a torque wrench and found this one on Amazon. I was looking for a quality piece that wasn't too expensive.

I'm pretty happy w/ this one. If you require a torque wrench as part of your everyday kit, maybe there are better options out there. This one suits my needs just fine: Feels sturdy and well made. The markings are easy to read. Setting and locking the wrench are dead simple.

Nicely constructed torque wrench. It worked well on my wheel lug nuts (primary reason for purchase). I haven't used it on other nuts/bolts, plugs, etc, yet. I see why some say the chrome-on-chrome legend is somtimes hard to see, but adjusting the surrounding light fixes that fairly easily. Overall, I think it's an excellent tool for a decent price. If it proves otherwise, I'll update my post.

2.0 out of 5 stars Plastic Handle...Really??, December 1, 2011
This review is from: GearWrench 85052 3/8-Inch Drive Micrometer Torque Wrench 10-100 ft lb (Tools & Home Improvement)

The handle is a hard plastic. Very strange and cheap feeling. There were some kind of scratches on plastic handle as well. I gave the wrench 2 stars since they included a print out of the end of line test results, with 2 or 3 (I can't remember for sure) torque value checks at 3 different torque settings.

I returned the Gearwrench torque wrench and bought CDI's 1002MFRMH torque wrench (Snap-On's Industrial Brand) for $30 more.

Gearwrench really let me down this time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality torque wrench, November 28, 2011

I've used this 4 times so far and it's been a solid tool to date. I compared it against a Snap-On torque wrench when it first arrived and it was dead on. I've had the 1/2" drive version that goes up to 250 ft lbs for about 2 years and its still performing well. The lock ring locks the setting in fairly well, it has a long enough handle for decent leverage up to its stated torque limit, and the click can be heard and felt. I'd buy it again. Its a lot cheaper than my Snap-On and seems to be of comparable quality. Anyone working on newer cars understands the need for a good quality torque wrench.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handyman Tool for Everyday Jobs, October 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: GearWrench 85052 3/8-Inch Drive Micrometer Torque Wrench 10-100 ft lb (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this tool for several reasons. The first because it has a DUAL scale. Settings can be made in foot pounds or Newton meters. Handy if you work on European or Japanese made equipment.

Second reason was because of the scale of settings (as low as 10 ft pounds). Many torque wrenches start at a much higher setting. Most of my work is on smaller engines or machines so I don't need real high settings.

And lastly was the price. I really didn't want to spend more than a hundred bucks. My usage just doesn't warrant it.

The manufacturing quality seems good. The scales are pretty easy to read. The lock ring is just so ..so. Not very solid feeling. A factory test of calibration came rubberbanded to the tool. Regardless of what tool you buy, you must use it in blind faith. No one I know has a way to properly check the calibration or accuracy of the settings.

My first use involved the re-torqueing of the head bolts on an 8 HP Nissan four stroke outboard that called for 30 Newton meters of torque. This I was able to easily set on the wrench and do the job. So far the head gasket hasn't blown so I'm hopeful that the wrench is accurate.

The wrench comes in a solid plastic case which will protect it well.

If you buy, don't forget to release the torque tension setting to ZERO when finished using or storing.

Why not a five star? I'm a tough grader and I feel that this is not a full blown "professional" level tool. If you are a pro and getting paid for your work, I'm sure there are better, more accurate, longer lasting wrenches out there. For the "average Joe" this should be fine.
