5.0 out of 5 stars Guide of War, November 7, 2008
This review is from: Gears of War 2 Signature Series Guide (Bradygames Signature Guides) (Paperback)
The Bradygames guide for Gears of War 2 is a hefty and handy guide that will make a great companion to a great game. It is about 300 pages, which is pretty beefy for most FPS guides. It's broken up into several sections (COG training, COG armory, Locust databank, Campaign walkthrough, Multiplayer warfare, Multiplayer map analysis, and COG intel archive). The training, armory, and databank sections are all chock full of exposition about characters, weapons, and enemies. The campaign walkthrough lists out all the major encounters you'll have with enemies (along with strategies for defeating them). The multiplayer section is quite large and contains lots of info about all the game modes and maps. The intel archive has a list of collectibles that are scattered throughout the game, as well as achievements. Very handy. It's a beautiful guide with lots of large, clear photos. The layout is nice and easy to follow. Get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Star G (Gear, Game), April 19, 2010

Halo 3 is the Gold Standard for 1st person shooters, and Gears of War remains the Gold Standard for 3rd person shooters.

If you are just getting involved in the Gears of War franchise or a long-time fan of Gears of War I, Gears of War 2 is an extremely rewarding purchase, and I highly recommend it in conjunction with the strategy guide.

As far as a sequel is concerned, Gears of War 2 improved in every area, and certainly every category that is important. The gameplay is smooth. The campaign is single or co-op two player, and is quite engaging. The textures help immerse you into the world seamlessly. The multiplayer is diverse and always challenging. Horde mode allows you to play against A.I. characters in teams of up to five human players, which by the way, is a game mode emulated by several other games, including Firefight in Halo ODST and Halo: Reach and Extraction Mode in Army of Two 40th Day. The developers have made a slew of diverse maps available to download to enjoy in multiplayer, keeping things ever interesting. The updated strategy guide that includes all the multiplayer maps would be your best bet.

Brady Games always makes solid strategy guides, and the Gears of War 2 strategy guide is no exception. Reasons why this is a must-have in your video game library:

- Complete walkthrough on the campaign, including location of hidden items

- multiplayer maps broken down, including weapon locations

- horde mode tips

- weapon introduction and usage hints

- stunning graphics and plenty of visual extras

Even if you are reading this after Gears of War 3 came out, it's never too late to go back and play an awesome game, complete it in style with the strategy guide.

Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Maps, December 22, 2011

If this game guide is good for nothing else, it is worth buying for the maps. The detail in the maps makes it worth every penny. Bradygames took the time to include every little detail in the maps: they show you where every upgrade, weapon, ammo, and collectible item is on the map. You don't even have to read the text to figure out where to go get whatever you need. Definitely worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bare your Teeth!!!, September 10, 2011

This review is from: Gears of War 2 Signature Series Guide (Bradygames Signature Guides) (Paperback)
Bought the Gears 2 guide to compliment the Gears 1 guide i bought. Has some wear on it but i'm cool with it. It's a bigger then the first guide, but that means there's more stuff to read in and to find in the game. maps are detailed for single and multipalyer and that's a good thing cause' i suck at multiplayer. Plus it was half the cover price when i bought it, which is cool. So if your a gears fan, or newbie to the series: do yourself and fisrt get the guide, then get the game to play it. It wouldn't hurt if u bought the gears 1 and 2 guides and then the games for it. Just saying.
