A must have for fans of Gears of War.,

This review is from: Gears Of War (Audio CD)
Having spent spans of 24 hours or more with X-box 360 controller in my hands and giddily giggling like a school-girl as yet another Wretch is ground into pulp by a chainsaw or shotgun blast, I just had to have this cd when it was finally released.
One of the great things about the game was the feeling that you were having a real cinematic experience filling the massive boots of Marcus Fenix. While the HD visuals and the great voice work went a long way into making that experience work, in a lot of cases the music did an even better job. Kevin Riepl has somehow managed to merge several different genre of musical sountracks into a sonic hammerburst with which your ears are reduced to puddles of blood, gore and DNA strands. To easily sum up what this soundtrack reminds me of, take Christopher Franke of Babylon 5 fame, add a pinch of generic horror soundtracks through the ages, throw in a little of the dark marches of Howard Shore from his Lord of the Rings works, add a heaping helping of patriotic and military movie inspiration, and stir liberally. If you liked/loved the game, then you've probably already caught your self humming the themes (or hearing them in your head) when no one was around... If so, get this NOW and you can tell the police officer who pulls you over for speeding on your way to work or school is that there is a swarm of Kryll chasing you and the UV cannon just died...

This soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard. I enjoyed the music during the game and now I'm enjoying it on my Zune. If you liked the game and you like epic instrumental soundtracks, this is for you!

The music is very good. The problem is they released a cheap quality version. Rather than give us 256 bit rate, it is variable. It can drop as low as 128 bit. The songs are already huge in data size but the quality is variable. Very cheap encoding. They could have spent an extra 30 minutes to produce nice 256bit mp3s but instead went purely on the cheap.

I bought this soundtrack mainly because I liked the song right at the end of the game that Cole Train sings; of course, that is the one song that was not on the soundtrack. So if you like that song, you'll be disappointed with this soundtrack in that respect; I know I was. Other than that, all of the other music that was in the game is on this soundtrack. Believe me I know because I have beaten the game like a hundred times already. I have a thing for military/score music, so I think this soundtrack was a pretty good listening. It all depends on what you like.

The music on this CD rocks! Well, not rocks, but is great. There are a few tracks in the middle that are a bit monotonous, but those must be the filler music for game play.

I purchased this soundratk after several hours playing hte 2006 GOTY. This videogame has a thrilling atmosphere, I think that the music has a very important role in the game.
This sountrack contains every song you could listen in the game, the only song that isn't included has been the credit vocal song. I'm very satisfied with my item, If you love "Gears Of War" you'll love this original soundtrack too.

To me, the music was the best part of the game. It really ratcheted up the exitement. After humming the songs all the time, I found the soundtrack and bought it. It has a lot of tracks. Listening without the game only shows that the music is really good. The bombastic numbers remind me of movie soundtracks like The Chronicles of Riddick or Star Trek II.

and extremely heavy on atmosphere. There are identifiable themes but they are more often than not subsumed by atmospheric washes and zings. An extremely well engineered, mixed and mastered album. I was also very surprised by the minimal use of electronic percussive elements used, the composers/engineers appearing to opt for sampling acoustic elements and treating them to provide the percussive tones. Very reminiscent of the tenser moments in Goldsmith's "Aliens" or even Silverstri's "Predator" soundtrack. If A GoW movie ever gets made I'd like to see Riepl get the nod as composer, and maybe he could concentrate on a few more identifiably heroic sounding themes (as no doubt he would be required to do so as films are entirely different beasts than games).
