The Up & Away Deluxe Hoist system features a unique no-hassle 2-piece mounting system with a separate bracket that mounts to ceilings or fits on open 2" x 4" joists, then bolts quickly to the rope and pulley system. The 2 rope system provides easy lifting and control and comes with a wall mount tie-off cleat. Bonus heavy-duty adjustable web "belly" straps included for hoisting canoes, kayaks, car top carriers, and more. Heavy Duty 100-lb. capacity. Designed to operate on ceilings up to 12 feet high. The Racor Hoist Monster and the Kettler Bicycle Lifter are the competition for this product. I have tried all of the hoists that I mention. The Racor and Kettler have one continuous rope that routs through all the pulleys--so they have 4:1 mechanical advantage. This product has 2 independent ropes, so it only has 2:1 mechanical advantage. YOU CANNOT LIFT 200 POUNDS WITH THIS PRODUCT--with only 2:1 mechanical advantage you have to be a strong person to lift 50 pounds. The advantage of this product is that you can control the front and back pulley independently. If you don't need this capability, buy the Racor for $21 if you don't mind a bit of a cheap feeling product (but it works fine), or buy the Kettler for $50 if you want a super slick product that works beautifully and has the best locking mechanism.

Installation was relatively simple, hardest part was finding the studs in the ceiling to anchor to. My kayak is 14 feet long and probably weighs around 65 pounds. It takes a bit of pulling to get it going but I feel very secure in its ability to hold the weight. I'm ordering a second one for my other kayak (an otter which only weighs in a 38 pounds).

Heavy Duty Hoist Rack
This hoist is advertised by Amazon to be rated at 200 lbs. I received the hoist and the manufacture's info had it rated at 100 lbs. I contacted the manufacture, and they said the discrepancy was in Amazon's ad and they had no way to get Amazon to change the ad. The product is great, but not for my application.
