Book Description

April 27, 2010 5 and upK and upA Child's Day
Geeta's day begins as most children's do, but when she sets off to school, passing the kamar at the forge, the bhandari shaving a customer, and the mali weaving garlands of flowers to offer to the temple gods, her world begins to beat to the distinctive rhythm of Indian village life. Geeta's Day highlights the unique things that make her world special, but it also reveals that much is the same for children everywhere. Prodeepta Das' photography vividly conveys the heat and vibrancy of an Indian plains village, and his delightful dawn-to-dusk journal encourages young readers to compare and contrast Geeta’s day with their own.

Editorial Reviews

Review

`The scheme provides children with good writing models. It builds confidence and stretches gifted children.' Holly Nolan , Dulwich Village Infants School

`We like the repetition and rigour of RWI Comprehension, and children always enjoy working with the modules linked to children's books. The pitch of the activities is very good as it encourages all the children and helps to stretch them.' Downshall Primary School, Ilford.

`RWI Comprehension gets our children to a secure Level 3.' Bea Coates, Grafton Primary School, Holloway

`The children's imagination takes off. They start to use sentences they would never have used before they did the Comprehension modules. Children love the Vocabulary Catch and the Fantastic Sentences.' Val Wing, Whetstone Field Primary School, Walsall --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautifully done, August 2, 2011

This review is from: Geeta's Day: From Dawn to Dusk in an Indian Village (A Child's Day) (Paperback)
We obtained this item from the library in preparation to take our children (7 and 5) to India for the first time. How wonderful for them to see life in a south Indian village from a child's perspective. The story is gently written, with exactly the details a child would look for. We'll be buying our own copy.
