The Lutheran church has seen some incredibly talented people, who composed exceptional and inspired music -- this 2 CD-set puts the best of the best all in one place, focusing on chorales. The music is timeless and absolutely incredible. Any Bach or chorale lover needs this set. The liner includes full lyrics in German.

It is impossible to praise the music on this CD set too highly. It is brilliantly performed presentations of Bach's settings of the chorales Luther drew from folk songs and other sources. The most famous example is the tune to which "A Mighty Fortress" is still sung today. There are many other chorale tunes on these CDs and all are performed at a high level of musicianship. It is hard to listen to these CD's and not stand up and applaud. The liner notes say little about the music, though the text of the words (in German) is given

This CD receives a four-star rating only because the packaging does not include the lyrics. The music, however, is fantastic.
