1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work, no manufacturer support, January 18, 2008

This review is from: Gem Sound GT-USB Belt-Drive USB Turntable with Bias Soundsoap SE and Audacity Software (Electronics)
Bought this as a gift for my sister-in-law. It didn't work. No sound came through either the USB interface or when connected to a stereo via the RCA audio cables. Emailed the company but received no response. Called their (non toll-free) customer support number, got a recording, left voice mail, got no response. Checked the GemSound website, they don't have any info on this product there. Returned the unit, will get a different brand.

Also, the Soundsoap software that was included was only a trial version.

The box indicated there was a dust cover, but it wasn't in there. The turntable had connection points for a dust cover. Amazon did not state that there would be a dust cover, but the gift recipient didn't know that and was disappointed it was missing.

The turntable looked like a well made professional quality turntable, too bad the company wasn't standing behind their product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed GEM-GT owner, January 10, 2008
I received this unit as a gift. It's a great turntable that does what it's supposed to do. It's easy to use and operate.

I'm giving it 3 stars only because it does NOT come with a dust cover as shown on the box and described in the owners manuel. The design is such that it has hinges for use with an acrylic dust cover.

Contacting GEM Sound didn't get me far, they did promptly reply, however they advised it was a misprint on their part and they do NOT make a cover for this unit. Then why put hinges on the unit?

For the price that was paid for this unit I feel they are misleading the consumer. Why would I want to spend the money on something like this to leave it exposed to dust and household elements?

I am now surfing the internet for a "plastic" cover, like the old typewriter covers to use with my turntable. Quite a disappointment along with another expense.

5.0 out of 5 stars IT'S A GEM, BUT PATIENCE IS REQUIRED, April 24, 2008
This review is from: Gem Sound GT-USB Belt-Drive USB Turntable with Bias Soundsoap SE and Audacity Software (Electronics)
I recently purchased this USB turntable. It works in conjunction with Audacity as well as Bias Soundsoap software. At first, I was lost. It's tricky to get things working. Bias Sounsoap has a video tutorial on line, which is superb. It makes it easy once you get the hang of it. The tougher part was figuring out the right settings on Audacity. To hear the vinyl record as it's recording, under edit, then preferences, the USB setting and correct playback setting must be chosen. The monitor input botton is the down arrow by the right VU meter in Audacity.

I finally have it all working and it's fantastic. I called Gem Sound and they were very helpful on several occasions. Bias Soundsoap quickly responded to my questions via e-mail.I took my most scratched up record, cleaned it up, and it sounds like it was digitally remastered.

The GEM SOUND USB TURNTABLE works great. It took me several weeks to figure it out and I'm very happy.
