A Kid's Review

Players beware! The plugs I received after losing one at a music camp are not at ALL like they look like in the picture. They are small plugs that fall through the flute when pushed too hard because they have no backing like in the picture. I was tremendously happy when I saw I could buy the plugs that came with my flute (The ones in the picture) and very dissapointed to see that these plugs were just puny pieces of rubber. PLEASE DO NOT BETRAY THE BUYER WITH WRONG PICTURES!

1. lots of plugs don't have backings. and pushing them through the hole to get them out is a lot easier than trying to get them out the other way.
2. in general, plugs come in various diameters, so when you buy a set, they might not necessarily work well for your flute. I have had experience with both ones that are too big to fit, and ones that easily come out or don't give enough coverage (I don't have an offset g and I need one, so on that occasion the space between the plug and the circumference of the hole wasn't completely covered and sounded hoarse). 3. in the flute community, there are varying opinions about using plugs. It is usually considered that the flute sounds better without them, but you shouldn't be pressured into feeling that it is childish to use them. They are good for training yourself to gradually take them out, so that you aren't immediately bad when you get a step-up flute. 4. people, they're so cheap that it really doesn't matter if you lose them. if that happens then you can get another set that could be from another company, and keep testing and stuff. You really are gonna get what you pay for. Puny pieces of rubber/sillicone/plastic/corc/metal are exactly what they are. Besides, I have lost them countless times, and it really isn't a big deal. I'm probably on my...4th or 5th set. I'm not gonna try to put down people (hope this doesn't sound like that but I don't have good persuasive/social skills) and I also note that this is based on plugs in general. You might be better off going to the local music store and actually trying some. And if you think you can get along without plugs, that's really great. You'll train yourself to be much better and stuff. If you've been playing for a few years, I'd think of trying to train yourself off of them.

These flute plugs will also fit in a F.E. Olds open hole flute. Would not fit in an Emerson brand.

Well Above Expectations,

With only seconds long effortless insertion, these nearly invisible plugs allowed perfect play while they created a smooth, sealed, closed hole feel to the instrument.

My flute is a Gemeinhardt open hole, and these plugs fit perfectly. Great buy! I looked to buy plugs at my local music store and they were hard plastic "table like" plugs. Not only were they not compfy on my fingers they were also twice the price! Glad I checked Amazon!

I really needed these plugs so my daughter would be able to borrow my flute for her upcoming performances while her flute is being repaired. Unfortunately, the photo IS FALSE ADVERTISING!!! Be aware that you will NOT RECEIVE THE PLUGS PICTURED HERE. The plugs I received fell right through the holes. I am surprised because I have ordered several items from Musician's Friend and have never had a problem before.

Flute plugs are not a good idea for most people,

The only reason you should use these is if you have a medical reason to (i.e. your fingers are too short to cover the holes because you're under the age of 8, or you don't have full fingers due to injury)
My flute professor took mine my first day of lessons in college. I haven't looked back since then. |
