I am an amateur/hobbiest musician, sound engineer and producer, mostly working from my apartment. I have just bought these to replace my of Sennheiser HD 280 pro cans, they lasted me 4 years and served their time well. I needed something pretty quickly and got the Gemini as a gamble for the price. I stress I dont use these for general music listening, rather they are used as they are intended as a studio reference headset and my review is based on that use.

1. COMFORT
My biggest issue with the Sennheisers was that after an hour or so they really started to irritate my head and pinch my ears, especially when wearing my glasses. The Geminis are REALLY comfortable, I've been wearing them for almost 2 hours straight now with my glasses on and Im still relaxed, the padding is really nice and forms a soft cup around the ear thats not intrusive or pinching.

2. SOUND
I loved how "uncolored" the sound was through the Sennheiser. As an amateur at fisrt I found it a little harsh to record and work on my music with the unforgiving nature of the Sennheiser, i wanted everything to sound loud and bassy, but I quickly learned that hearing your recording uncolored allows you to really define the real sounds you want to make, which ultimately end up in a much greater balanced output when mixed and mastered. I'm slightly disappointed that the Gemini are a little bassy and the top end is not as crisp than Im used to, perhaps they are more intended for DJ use. But they are still pretty flat. This is why I dropped to 4 stars.

3. BUILD
The headset feels sturdy and well constructed, the lead is a coiled one (like the HD pro 280s) which I have no problem with and the jack is gold plated with a s screw on 1/4 inch. Feels like a good quality product.

First and foremost, how do these sound? They sound marvelous, highlighting all frequencies in a clear and clean way. Bass is strong but not inappropriately boomy, and mids/highs are represented prominently; i.e. the equalization seems to be about flat. The way the speakers are arranged makes the sound feel very "wide" and expansive (panning is much more dramatic). Instruments sound extremely pristine and textures are sharp, but the sensation is soft and pleasant on the ears.

Hardly any sound leaks from the phones even at somewhat higher volumes, miraculously. On this note, the isolation is reasonably good as well, eliminating most ambient noise and muffling harsher sounds. My laptop fan often kicks into a frenzy when I'm doing something even slightly taxing, and these phones block it out completely.

As for the comfort factor, these are probably the most comfortable headphones I've owned of 4 or 5 different pairs over the years. After maybe 3 or 4 hours straight you may feel some irritation, but I'm not sure any pair can avoid that problem entirely. Rest assured these provide a cozy fit for any head from small to large, mine being about mid-sized, since you asked! The phone pads are thick and plushy and feel great over one's ears. Occasionally I notice they can make my ears slightly warm, but never to an intolerable degree and not even very often to begin with.

I had some reservations about the coiled cable since I'd never owned such a thing, but it's actually immensely convenient and adaptable. The cable itself is rather heavy-duty compared to my older headphones, and the jack is fairly large (comes with both a detachable 1/4" and standard 3.5mm) but this hasn't been an issue for me.

First of all, I am NOT an audiophile so I can't really comment on the clarity, bass, et cetera. But to me personally, as a gamer, casual music listener, I am very impress with the sound, the comfort, and the quality build of this headpdhone.

Don't be fooled by its currently low price at $54.99. You'll be pleasantly surprised how premium the headphone look and feel when you hold it in your hand and try it on.

What impress me the most is the comfort level. I have sensitive ears and get hot easily when using headpdhone for extended period of time. My ears usually hot and quite uncomfortable when using other headphones in just 30 minutes. With this baby however, I can use up to 2 or 3 hours !! That's a huge improvement for me as I value comfort above ALL ELSE.

My rating:

Sound: 9/10
Build quality: 10/10
Comfort: 1000/10 , YES I'm not kidding!
***Overall: 10/10

In conclusion, if you REALLY want your dollar's worth, get this headphone. This is one of those things that you'd scream :"SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!".

I Love these headphones! completely clear on all levels, base, mid range and trebles are clear. Lower the volume and still hear the parts clearly and defined. My shipping was very good and arrived in one day! I got more than I hoped for.

The Gemini HSR1000 have a great soundstage for closed headphones. Frequency response reminds me of my Grado SR60 first gen (those are open though) with very good mids and highs, but the Gemini have better low frequency response (probably because they are closed). I recently prefer listening to music from these headphones over the Grado because I think the vocals sound better in the Gemini. Compared to the expansive soundstage of the open Grado, the Gemini manage to maintain a good soundstage giving a sense of space to music which combined with the good frequency response makes them enjoyable to listen to for long periods of time. I also have in my possession the NVX XPT100 (similar to Brainwavz HM5) and the Gemini have better high frequency reproduction, while the sound stage is good in both headphones. The NVX are more comfortable with lush ear pads and larger headband, but the Gemini are good too. I also owned recently the Phiaton MS400 (reviewed by Stereophile with good comments) and again the Gemini have better high frequency reproduction and also do not suffer from the boxy sound and limited sound stage of the Phiaton. I believe that for the price I paid (around $60) these headphones are a bargain.
