if you want a very small PA speaker this one is good. its louder and sounds better than most boom boxes. of course it doesn't have the bass of a larger PA speaker, but for the size and price it is good. the plastic case is durable.

... a decent crossover and 1/4" jacks. That would make a world of difference for this ultra-lightweight PA/monitor cabinet.

As it comes, the woofer is wired to get straight signal and the tweeter has a crossover. That means there's a lot of blare in the midrange overlap between tweeter and woofer that runs all over what bass such a small speaker can push effectively. And that mid spike was at the limit of what my mixer's graphic could iron out.

Having said all that I decided to keep them and modify rather than return because they are so compact and light- a necessity with my back. I put an inductance coil I had laying around in series with the woofer (voiding the warrantee), and though it knocked the output (and blare) down, program music started sounding fairly decent. Gee, think what it would sound like if it actually had a tuned crossover (which I may get around to).

WIthout any rewiring the cabinet would be an ok stage monitor as is -except- the angle on the back is so slight you have to set it at considerable distance to get a straight shot! And since it has speakon jacks only, you can't tip it back further without resting on the cable/plug connection! So while I'm voiding my warrantee why not put in 1/4" jacks and/or use angle plugs, you ask.

The blinky blue LED lights up with signal, so while being distracting you do have an indication of signal strength. Black tape is a cheap fix.

If you don't have much mid-eq control (or not up for modding) these boxes can bark, depending on your signal.
