From the Back Cover

A lesson on designing wireless applications--from a technologist's point of view

The demand for wireless applications is growing at an explosive rate. Along with the increase in demand for wireless services comes a growing need for the applications to utilize them. This unique book combines Cap Gemini Ernst & Young's leading practice methodologies with real-life examples and case studies that have been generated through years of wireless system implementations throughout the world.

Taking into consideration that all system architects design applications in different ways, Kornak, Distefano, and the Cap Gemini Ernst & Young team provide a standard operating framework that is used consistently throughout the book. Their client-centered approach to writing is geared toward the architect who wants to learn to design a wireless enterprise system from the top down or, alternatively, as an extension of an existing ecommerce infrastructure.

In addition to providing a detailed roadmap to a wireless system, this informative book explores such topics as:
* Designing a conceptual, logical, and physical framework that will serve as a blueprint to build wireless applications
* Customer relationship management (CRM) applications and the key variables at play in understanding CRM
* Wireless enterprise applications for financial services and commerce, and the technology design behind these applications
* Wireless mobile office applications, such as wireless e-mail, hot alerts, instant messaging, and others
* The future of wireless technology, including a review of an industry analysis provided by the architecture team at CGE&Y

5.0 out of 5 stars Pragmatic Solution and not a Dogmatic Hypothesis, April 22, 2002

This review is from: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Guide to Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture (Paperback)
An excellent collection of solid practical content, a book that can be chosen as an academic course to be taught in variety of engineering disciplines such as electronics, computer science, Internet Technologies, etc. because of its solid practical approaches to deliver solution as opposed to hypothesizing on untested value propositions.
In the era when many people rush to write books on any new technical catch phrase for the mere gratification of having authored a technical book that may augment their professional aspiration, the authors of "Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture" have provided the reader with a reference book that is a valuable knowledge source. Relatively small font size and condensed and to the point graphics that enhance readers understanding of major points discussed in the 630 pages of text are all indication of authors being the true subject matter specialists.
The views presented in the book are both from 35000 feet and at the landing level suitable for enterprise strategists as well as technical and tactical workforce.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hundreds of thousands of $$ of consulting, in a (...) book, November 13, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Guide to Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture (Paperback)
This book is an amazing opportunity to profit from the experiences of Cap Gemini's m-commerce and mobile/wireless groups. It's packed with case studies, best practices, and load of practical information - enough to give any engineer something to start with. But it's greatest value (for me, at least) was as a "bargaining tool" for my manager. It enabled me to say, "Look, someone else is doing what we want to do. Maybe next time it will be our competitors. For that reason, it's now got to be us." Now, our business infrastructure is on it's way to becoming that of what a powerhouse company should have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive and Highly Relevant, November 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Guide to Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture (Paperback)
I was doing research for our company's wireless project and came across this book. The chapters on wireless in the supply chain were excellent and highly relevant to my project. I wish I had known about them before I presented my findings to my colleagues. Either way, the book will serve as an excellent reference for my project.
