5.0 out of 5 stars Pragmatic Solution and not a Dogmatic Hypothesis, April 22, 2002
By
"mmojaver" (Pasadena, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Guide to Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture (Paperback)
An excellent collection of solid practical content, a book that can be chosen as an academic course to be taught in variety of engineering disciplines such as electronics, computer science, Internet Technologies, etc. because of its solid practical approaches to deliver solution as opposed to hypothesizing on untested value propositions.
In the era when many people rush to write books on any new technical catch phrase for the mere gratification of having authored a technical book that may augment their professional aspiration, the authors of "Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture" have provided the reader with a reference book that is a valuable knowledge source. Relatively small font size and condensed and to the point graphics that enhance readers understanding of major points discussed in the 630 pages of text are all indication of authors being the true subject matter specialists.
The views presented in the book are both from 35000 feet and at the landing level suitable for enterprise strategists as well as technical and tactical workforce.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hundreds of thousands of $$ of consulting, in a (...) book, November 13, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Guide to Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture (Paperback)
This book is an amazing opportunity to profit from the experiences of Cap Gemini's m-commerce and mobile/wireless groups. It's packed with case studies, best practices, and load of practical information - enough to give any engineer something to start with. But it's greatest value (for me, at least) was as a "bargaining tool" for my manager. It enabled me to say, "Look, someone else is doing what we want to do. Maybe next time it will be our competitors. For that reason, it's now got to be us." Now, our business infrastructure is on it's way to becoming that of what a powerhouse company should have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive and Highly Relevant, November 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Guide to Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture (Paperback)
I was doing research for our company's wireless project and came across this book. The chapters on wireless in the supply chain were excellent and highly relevant to my project. I wish I had known about them before I presented my findings to my colleagues. Either way, the book will serve as an excellent reference for my project.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wealth of knowledge - A Must Buy!!, November 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Guide to Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture (Paperback)
The authors do a superb job explaining the applications of wireless solutions for all readers - those very technical and those who are not. The information is concisely written and is not dry and boring. In addition, the case studies that were presented flowed very well with the material. This is the first book I've seen that disects each step of the architecture design process - the charts were a great visual guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learn wireless architecture from the pros, November 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Guide to Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture (Paperback)
One of the best books I've read on wireless technology. This book provides not only a blueprint for building a web architecture, but also illustrates how to integrate wireless design into your enteprise. It's like two books in one! Each section covers a unique case study for wireless. It's a rare chance to learn from the big 5 pros.
It's a great book for a beginner or someone with years of experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars a complete guide to wireless applications, November 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Guide to Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture (Paperback)
There are plenty of books out there on the shelves about wireless technology. When I first took this book into my hands - that's what I expected. Needless to say: I was positively surprised about Cap Gemini Ernst& Young's different approach to wireless technology. They not just covered technical aspects (just like everyone else), but even more importantly, how all this translates into the daily business environment. This book will stay on my desk as a source of continuous reference and will not collect dust in my book shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reference Book, November 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Guide to Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture (Paperback)
What I most liked about this book was the approach they used to provide business justification for technological decisions. It provides the approach necessary to avoid purchasing the wrong technology for the wrong reasons, ie: purchase it because it was featured in the latest tech magazine as the coolest technology when it really is a poor fit to our requirements.

This is a good read and a must buy.

This review is from: Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Guide to Wireless Enterprise Application Architecture (Paperback)
This book was a wonderful opportunity to upgrade my mobile commerce skills. I've been interested in this area for some time, and the book improved my ability to address the big picture as well as to talk knowledgeably about details. I'd strongly recommend this to anyone working in the field.
