Musical gold.,
By Robert J. Cruce (Muskogee, OK United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Geminiani: Concerti Grossi, Op. 7 (Audio CD)
You can't do any better than this performance and recording in classical music. Its just that simple. There is perfection in everything here. Geminiani is not well known, but once upon a time Bach himself had to be rescued from obscurity. The textures are absorbing, this is not Vivaldi. But it is the work of a surpassingly great composer. You'll buy dozens of classical CD's and not come anywhere close to the excellence of this one.

Terrible sound.,

The concerti are wonderful in themselves. The performances are a bit old-fashioned, but quite elegant-sounding. The main drawback is just flat-out terrible sound. The music sounds muted somehow as if the sound engineers just fiddled too much with it. Also, each concerto is on one track, which is just a dreadful habit that some record companies have. Still, I guess if you want to listen to these concerti you don't have much other choice than this recording.

Too bad this album is not as known!,

This is one of the best Baroque albums I have ever heard. If you are looking for something to take you back in time, this is the album!

rdc,

I owned the old I Musici version of this issued about 30 years ago on monaural; it fast became my favorite record of the baroque; but it's long out of print, my phono is broken, and there is no substitute but this. This performance is durable, lighter in texture than I Musici, not quite with the same gloss as the old, original ensemble. Don't overlook the opportunity to hear & love this music over and over. We call them classics because we get to know every note, and never get tired of them.

A Baroque treasure house!,

I stumbled upon this album a couple of years ago, and am glad I came across it. It is one of the best Baroque albums I have ever heard. Unfortunately, Geminiani is not as well known as some of his comtemporaries which is a real shame. This entire album just carries you along from movement to ever-changing movement.
