2.0 out of 5 stars Gemma is thrown into life with an ordinaty family.
Set in England, this book is harder to read than other Streatfield books. Gemma, the main character, is a hard one with which to identify. A famous star's daughter, Gemma comes and lives with her ordinary cousins, only to find that they all outshine her. Die hard Noel Streatfield fans will enjoy this book, but it is not a first choice.

"Gemma," the first in a series of four books, is about a young professional actress who, having led a glamorous life, suddenly finds herself, in her early teens, "washed up" and sent to stay with cousins in the industrial town of Headstone. Gemma's adaption to life in the Robinson family, how she changes it and is changed by it, is a delightful and entertaining story, blending humor, warmth, and charm. Dell Yearling would do well to bring the book back into print with its successors.

This is a great quick read, and the first of the Gemma series. The series is about Gemma, a once famous child actress and daughter of a movie star. In this book Gemma moves into her cousins home and joins a performing arts school.
